Stanford Earns Verbal Commitment from #7 Lucy Bell for 2022-23

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Lucy Bell from Fossil Ridge High School and Fort Collins Area Swim Team in Fort Collins, Colorado has announced her verbal commitment to Stanford University’s class of 2026.

“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Stanford University. I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for helping me achieve this lifelong dream. I can’t wait to join such an amazing team! ❤️🌲 #fearthetree”

Bell is ranked 7th on our list of top girls recruits from the high school class of 2022. She is a strong IMer with a 200 fly time that would already score at NCAAs. Her 100 fly and 200 IM are just .04 and .06 shy of what it took to make it to finals at the 2021 NCAA Division I Championships.

In high school swimming, Bell is a four-time Colorado CHSAA Girls 5A individual state champion. As a freshman in 2019, she won the 200 IM (2:00.06) and was runner-up in the 100 fly (53.64) behind classmate Renee Gillilan. The next year she repeated her state title in the IM (1:58.16) and added a gold medal in the 100 free (49.81). This past season, she won the 100 fly (52.50 and 100 free (50.23) and contributed to a pair of FRHS state-champion relays (49.48 leadoff on the 4×100 free and 22.49 anchor on the 4×50 free).

Bell is a member of the 2021-22 USA Swimming National Junior Team. An Olympic Trials Wave II qualifier, she competed in the 100/200 fly and 200/400 IM in Omaha.

At the FAST Winter Showcase last December, she cracked the all-time top-20 for 15-16 girls in the 200 fly with 1:54.93. She also swam her best 200 IM time at that meet, and added a PB in the 200 free two weeks later.

Best SCY times:

  • 200 fly – 1:54.93 (1:53.73 alt. adj.)
  • 100 fly – 52.17
  • 200 IM – 1:57.74 (1:56.54 alt. adj.)
  • 400 IM – 4:12.42
  • 200 free – 1:49.33
  • 100 free – 49.17
  • 50 free – 22.99
  • 100 breast – 1:01.45
  • 200 breast – 2:14.68 (2:13.48 alt. adj.)

Bell’s best times would have scored at 2021 Pac-12 Championships in the A finals of the 100 fly (with sophomore Emma Wheal), 200 fly (where the Cardinal only had one entrant, senior Hannah Kukurugya), 200 IM (with freshman Janelle Rudolph and Kukurugya), 400 IM (with freshman Isabel Gormley and seniors Brooke Forde, Katie Glavinovich, and Kukurugya).

She will join the class of 2026 with Gigi Johnson, Kayla Wilson, Kirsti McEnroe, and Sophie Duncan.

Congrats to Lucy. I believe she is out of the same High School and Club as Zoe Bartel. The stock of IMers is going to be replenished for Stanford with the classes of 2021, 2022. Brooke will be there next March as will Tadder, then Hook follows in Lucy’s class. Imagine if Torri and Regan jumped in for a serious IM time trial, along with the other incoming IMers in 2021-22

Regan has always made fun of her Breaststroke. I think if she really puts her mind and improve her Br, she might become a really good IMer.

This is just to have fun. Nobody makes fun of her talent intensity etc. For collegiate, I hope we get at least a small glimpse of her freestyle speed on a couple relays. Good team chemistry when you see the string of results that they accomplish.

Many people said that she was but no announcement yet. She followed Stanford swimmers on her IG, just like Lucy and other Stanford commits.
