OT Wave I Finalist Gigi Johnson Sends Verbal Commitment to Stanford

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Gigi Johnson from Atlanta, Georgia has announced her verbal commitment to Stanford University for the 2022-23 school year.

“I am so honored and excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Stanford University! Huge thank you’s to coach caleb for helping me chase my dreams and to my friends and family for their endless support. I cannot wait to join the farm! #fearthetree ❤️🌲”

Johnson, a rising senior at Westminster School, is undefeated in Georgia High School 1-5A swimming, having won the 100 breast (1:03.09) and 200 IM (1:59.87) as a freshman, the 100 breast (1:02.98) and 200 IM (2:00.96) as a sophomore, and the 100 fly (53.13) and 200 IM (1:58.41) as a junior.

She does her club swimming with SwimAtlanta and recently competed at United States Olympic Trials – Wave I in the 100 fly, 200 breast, and 200 IM. She placed 3rd in the A final of the 100 fly (1:00.09) and she won the B final of the 200 IM (2:16.37). Johnson made our “Best of the Rest” section on our list of Top 20 Girls Recruits from the Class of 2022 for her 200 IM, but she is incredibly versatile and proficient in a number of events. At the Georgia LSC Senior Short Course State Championships in March, she won the 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM and was runner-up in the 100 free, 100 breast, and 200 breast. She left the meet with new PBs in the free, 100 back, 100/200 breast, and 200 IM.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 IM – 1:57.73
  • 100 back – 53.92
  • 100 fly – 53.13
  • 100 breast – 1:02.13
  • 200 breast – 2:13.61
  • 50 free – 23.10
  • 100 free – 49.93
  • 200 free – 1:48.64

Johnson will join Kirsti McEnroe in the Cardinal class of 2026. Her best times would already have placed her in the A final of the 200 IM, the B finals of the 200 free, 100 back, 100/200 breast, and 100 fly, and the C finals of the 50 free and 100 free at 2021 Pac-12 Championships.

They have gotten numerous national team Breastrokers in the last 4 years! Raab was just in finals at Trials. The others haven’t really improved there but they have definitely landed some studs!
