Seton Hall men’s and women’s head coach Ron Farina has resigned his position after 17 years at the helm of the Pirates’ program. He steps down after leading the men’s team to the program’s first-ever Big East title, beating runners-up Georgetown by 195 points. Farina plans to pursue new opportunities.
“It has been an honor to coach the young men and women who have come through this program the last 17 years,” Farina said. “This past season was extra special winning our first BIG EAST Championship. I take a lot of pride knowing that this program will continue to compete for multiple BIG EAST Swimming and Diving individual and team championships in the future. Once a Pirate, always a Pirate.”
Seton Hall’s Noah Yanchulis won the 200 and 500 free at those Big East Championships and was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer after the team won 11 events at the meet for the best outcome in program history. The women’s team also earned its best-ever Big East finish, placing 3rd and breaking 8 school records.
During Farina’s tenure, Seton Hall’s swimmers have accumulated:
- 37 Big East event titles
- 2 Big East Coach of the Year honors (2016 and 2017)
- 2 Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Year awards
- 5 Most Outstanding Diver of the Year awards
Incredible coach and incredible man
Does anyone know why?
I think he was forced out by the administration. Must be afraid of winning.
