NCAA Relay All-American Lucy Mehraban Announces Transfer To Texas

NCAA relay All-American Lucy Mehraban has announced via Instagram that she will transfer to Texas to continue her NCAA career. Mehraban spent two seasons in the ACC with Louisville and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Mehraban will travel further south as she is from Ann Arbor, Michigan. She committed to Louisville just months after returning to the sport after she took two and a half years off in high school. She won the Michigan High School state title in the 50 free as a senior just 3 months after returning to the sport.

As a freshman, she qualified for NCAAs and swam two lifetime bests at 2024 NCAAs. She finished 19th in the 100 free in a 47.82, 34th in the 200 free in a 1:45.51, and 37th in the 50 free in a 22.20. She also split a 47.17 for Louisville’s 400 free relay that finished 3rd to earn All-American honors.

Mehraban made NCAAs once again this past season. She made her first individual final as she finished 16th in the 100 free to score a point for the Cardinals. She swam a 47.81 in prelims which was a lifetime best. She also matched her lifetime best of a 1:45.51 in the 200 free as she was 33rd. She also swam a 22.08 for 28th in the 50 free. Louisville’s 400 free relay finished 3rd once again and Mehraban split a 47.25.

Mehraban’s Best SCY Times:

  • 50 free: 22.05 (2025 ACCs)
  • 100 free: 47.81 (2025 NCAAs)
  • 200 free: 1:45.51 (2024 and 2025 NCAAs)

The Texas women finished 3rd at the 2025 NCAA Championships and were just 23 points behind 2nd place Stanford. Graduate student Emma Sticklen led the way with 48 individual points including an NCAA title in the 200 fly.

Based on her best times, Mehraban helps boost the sprint freestyle group as her split of a 47.25 would have helped the team’s 400 free relay that finished 7th. The team returns two out of the four relay legs as lead off leg Erin Gemmell (48.13) and Lillie Nesty (47.73 flying start) return but Emma Sticklen (47.43) and Abby Arens (47.18) will have graduated by this fall.

In addition to the 400 free relay, Mehraban looks to take on a role in the 200 free relay. The Texas relay consisted of all graduate students at 2025 NCAAs as the relay finished 8th and the relay will look completely different this upcoming season.

In addition to boosting the free relays, the team had no finalists in the 100 freestyle this past season. Gemmell just missed making the final as she swam a 47.88 in a three-way tie for 16th. Grace Cooper was the team’s highest finisher in the 50 free with a 21.91 for 18th. Cooper just finished her 5th year.

TekSucks peaks in November and chokes in March. Nothing to see here, move along.

Please don’t attack my question because I am truly just curious… since Bowman is Director of Swimming at Texas, does Carol really run the show with the women or does she serve more in an amplified Associate role? I have heard some groups swim together but I am a bit confused. Is the team operating as a solidified mens and womens team with Bowman at the head?

Breaking news: Yuri leaving WISC to join Meehan at USA Swimming National Team

Andrew

Don’t worry she’ll go a PB by 1/100th in a september dual meet and then add in every event at NCs

Texas can rent and buy swimmers but it doesnt change the fact carol can’t coach a team to peak at the most important meet of the year

I got 41 downvotes for saying she was going to end up in Austin 2 weeks ago lol

Downvotes don’t necessarily mean “I think you’re wrong.” Could just be people who are frustrated by the number of transfers Texas is going to get in the next few years, A&M fans (they’re pretty active here), or folks upset about her leaving Louisville, among many other things.

Sometimes I downvote people just so it comes up in any potential afterlife tribunals where they need to justify why they should get into heaven.

If Texas has to cut its own swimmers to meet the roster limit, how can they accept transfers?

They have cut men, but have they really cut any women? And do the women have the same roster limits? It wouldn’t surprise me if they allowed more women to balance out football disparity, but I also don’t know if that opens NCAA/SEC to lawsuits. Ed always carried a big team when you include walk-ons. I’m not so sure that Carol carried as many.

The SEC limit for women is 30, only the men have 22.

I don’t know how many are coming in for thr women but I count 25 returners and they have a limit of 30

I assume they have to cut another of their swimmers if they are at the roster limit.

We can get in our feelings or we can realize it’s a business and if you get a swimmer that makes you better, you figure it out. It’s a new world, swimming is just catching up

Well this is not what I was expecting. Was definitely expecting Michigan. They need sprinters so this is a great pickup for them.

And when she figures out that she’s being trained to hit PBs in November instead of at the big dance

Same! I was so sure she was coming to Michigan! I’m super bummed about that, but maybe Texas was able to make her an offer that would be crazy to refuse.

interestingly braden said there was a 200k nil rumor. idk any school other than texas that might have that kinda money.

i assumed it was for bella (but idk if asu or michigan have that kinda money)

I don’t think any school is spending $200k for someone who has scored 1 point individually at NCAAs

Lucy is a terrific swimmer and this is no slight on her — but there’s zero chance she is the one getting the record NIL offer as a relay-only swimmer.

lol are they being reserved for the class of 2027? i hope they make decisions based on training environment and not money just given how important they might be in la but thats prob wishful thinking

Folks are naive regarding the war chests some schools have at their disposal. It is pay for players in swimming time!
