NCAA ‘B’ Finalist Remi Fabiani Transferring From Cal Baptist To Arizona State With 1 Year Left

2025 NCAA ‘B’ finalist Remi Fabiani has announced he will transfer from Cal Baptist to Arizona State. He has one year of eligibility remaining after taking an Olympic redshirt during the 2023-2024 season.

Fabiani just finished his senior season at Cal Baptist. He made his first NCAA Championship meet as a sophomore in 2023. There he finished 25th in the 50 free (19.24), 36th in the 100 back (46.61), and 42nd in the 100 free (42.86). His 100 back time marked a personal best.

He took an Olympic Redshirt during the 2023-2024 season but returned this past year for his senior season. He swept his individual events at the Western Athletic Conference Championships winning the 50 free (18.86), 100 back (45.50), and 100 free (41.83). Earning another invite to NCAAs, Fabiani scored in the 100 freestyle after swimming a 41.52 in prelims for 14th before finishing 13th in finals in a 41.65. He also was 22nd in the 50 free and 44th in the 100 back.

Fabiani ends his time at Cal Baptist as one of the best mid-major swimmers of all-time. His 50 free best time is tied for #1 all-time while his 100 free is #2 all-time only behind Dean Farris.

The addition of Fabiani boosts an already strong sprint group at Arizona State. First year head coach Herbie Behm led the team to a 6th place finish at 2025 NCAAs including two ‘A’ finalists in the 50 free with Ilya Kharun and Jonny Kulow.

Based on his best times, Fabiani would have been #3 on the roster in the 50 free this past season while his 100 free best time would have been 4th. He also has the potential to make an impact in backstroke as well as Jack Wadsworth led the tema this season with a 45.01.

ASU got 2nd in the 200 and 400 FR this year – behind Tennessee, who are losing Crooks and Lamar Taylor. ASU only loses Sammon, who threw down some wicked splits, but Fabiani should be even faster.

Totally understandable that he would transfer to a place where there will be a bigger focus on NCs and he could potentially continue to train after graduation as an international pro, but kind of brutal for CBU to do such a good job to help develop him and then still lose him. Swimming has been way on the lower end of transfer rates, but roster limits, power 4s going from 4 year scholarships to 1 year deals, and NIL are going to make our sport look more like what a bunch of other sports have for a while. I think that’s a little bit sad.

100%. It’s going to stink for him if he doesn’t improve at ASU. A year with a new coach and new way of training might not be enough time for him to improve.

You’re a pathetic person for thinking that man of his talent, caliber, and work ethic would not propel him forward in this sport. what an opportunity for Mr. Fabiani. To come from a small mid-major to swimming on one of the biggest teams in the nation. Congratulations to him on making money while doing it.

He’s gonna be a beast and a nice replenishment to Sammon’s monster splits for free relays

ASU seems to be doing just fine without bowman, which is nice to see

Good pickup by the Sun Devils! He will be a good fit with their sprint groups.
