For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Morgan Hawes from San Carlos, California has announced her verbal commitment to the University of California, Los Angeles for the 2021-22 school year.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at UCLA! I chose UCLA for its fantastic academics, incredible swim program, and its remarkable diversity. I am so grateful for my parents, coaches, friends, teammates and for everyone else who has supported me through this process. I can’t wait to be a part of the Bruin family! #GOBRUINS💙🐻💛”

Hawes is a junior at Carlmont High School and swims year-round for Alto Swim Club. She specializes in long-axis strokes with a special aptitude for mid-distance freestyle. At the 2019 CIF-Central Coast Championships last May, she was runner-up in the 500 free (4:52.04) and placed 4th in the 200 free (1:48.93). She also led off the medley relay in 27.50 and anchored the 400 free relay in 52.12. As a freshman in 2018, she had been 3rd in the 500 (4:59.25) and 6th in the 200 (1:50.82).

In club swimming, she earned a slate of new times at Carlsbad Sectionals in March, improving her lifetime bests in the 50 free, 100/200 back, and 200 IM. She finished 14th in the 100 free, 5th in the 200, 4th in the 500, and 15th in the 200 back.

In January 2019 she was selected to attend the Pacific Swimming Distance Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
