Ashley Stenstrom Becomes 3rd Valor Christian Commit to UCLA in 4 Classes

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

The UCLA Bruins continue to pick up recruiting steam under first year head coach Jordan Wolfrum, with the latest class of 2021 commitment coming from Colorado native Ashley Stenstrom.

Stenstrom attends Valor Christian High School in suburban Denver. Even with a new head coach, UCLA continues its relationship with that school – two current Bruins, sophomore Ella Kirschke and her sister, freshman Lindsay Stenstrom, also attended Valor Christian. In the fall of 2021, that means UCLA is scheduled to have 3 swimmers from the same high school on their roster.

“I chose UCLA because it is an incredible opportunity to continue both my athletic and academic career. I love the location, beautiful campus, and amazing facilities that it has to offer. The coaching staff has developed an exceptional team atmosphere that I will be honored to be a part of in the future. I am also excited to continue growing both in and out of the pool with such a wonderful group of girls. A huge thank you to everyone who has been a part of this crazy college process — my current coaches, my future coaches, and my friends and family! I am so excited for everything that UCLA holds for the future… Go Bruins!”

Stenstrom is primarily a sprint freestyler and made finals in both of her individual events at last year’s Colorado 5A High School State Championship meet (big schools). She placed 4th in 51.26 and 8th in the 200 IM. That meet was held in Thornton, Colorado, with an altitude of about 5,300 feet, so the 200 IM receives an altitude adjustment in USA Swimming’s database.

A 4-time NISCA High SChool All-American, She was also a member of Valor Christian’s state-title winning 200 and 400 free relays in 2018, when they were in Class 4A (mid-sized schools) before being promoted last season. In the 200 free relay, where Ashley Stenstrom joined with Kirschke and her sister Lindsay, the team broke the 4A State Record. That trio, along with Makayla Hoehn, were the same foursome on both relays.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 23.93
  • 100 free – 51.26
  • 200 free – 1:57.31
  • 100 breast – 1:09.71
  • 100 fly – 58.82
  • 200 IM – 2:07.12 (2:05.92, altitude adjusted)

Stenstrom joins Turkish swimmer Gizem Guvenc and Oregon native Eva Carlson as verbal commits in UCLA’s class of 2021 so far.
