Milak Set For 100 Fly Prelims On Day 3 Of European Championships (Day 3 Prelims Preview)

The morning will kick off with the women’s 200 free. After winning the 100 free in a new Czech National Record, Barbora Seemanova comes in as top seed and looks to challenge her national record. Hungary’s Nikolett Padar is the #2 seed and had a flying start split of a 1:55.87 on the anchor leg of the women’s 4×200 free relay on night 1.

The men’s 100 fly will be a deep race tomorrow. Noe Ponti comes in as the top seed and is followed right behind by Kristof Milak. Milak is the World Record holder in the 200 fly and won silver in the event at the 2020(1) Tokyo Games. The two battled it out earlier this month at the Mare Nostrum series although Milak had the edge in all of the events.  Hungary’s Hubert Kos also highlights the event as the #3 seed.

Although no swimmers will be looking for Olympic qualifications, the women’s 50 backstroke will be the third event of the morning. Ireland’s Danielle Hill comes in as the top seed.

Iceland’s Anton McKee enters as the top seed in the men’s 200 breaststroke with a 2:09.19 entry time. The only other swimmer entered under the 2:10 mark is Erik Persson of Sweden who has a time of a 2:09.35. McKee will look to make history for Iceland tomorrow as the country has never won a European Title in any event.

Closing the morning on the individual side is the women’s 400 IM. After breaking her own Israeli National Record in the 100 breaststroke on day 2, Anastasia Gorbenko comes in as the top seed in the 400 IM. Gorbenko notably scratched the 100 breast semifinal last night despite being the top seed. Gorbenko already holds the national record in the 400 IM and currently sits at #5 in the event in the World this season. Hungary’s Vivien Jackl enters as the #2 seed with a 4:34.96 and will look to challenge Gorbenko in the same heat in the final.

The women’s 4×100 free relay concludes the morning. Despite finishing 1-2 in the individual 100 free, Czech Republic does not have an entry in the event. Instead, Hungary is one to watch for after 3rd place finisher Nikolett Padar in the 100 free. Israel will also be a team to watch after winning the women’s 4×200 free relay on night 1.
