Annika Parkhe swam to another best time in Minneapolis as she swam to a 55.02 in the 100 freestyle. That was faster than her previous best of a 55.53 from summer 2022. This marked her 2nd best time of the meet after also swimming a 1:59.10 in the 200 free last night. Parkhe’s success bodes well for her arrival at Stanford this fall.
Parkhe earned the win over Maggie Wanezek who swam to a 55.51, faster than her previous best of a 55.89. Wanezek went on to win her own event later in the evening as she swam to a 1:00.67 in the 100 back. Wanezek notably was 11th in the 100 back at US Trials in a 59.85, a personal best time.
The final win of the night on the women’s side came from Katie McCarthy in the 400 IM. McCarthy swam to a personal best of a 4:46.27, faster than her previous best of a 4:47.31 from last summer. Her swim tonight was almost two seconds faster than she was at US Trials as she swam a 4:47.99 for 14th last month. It took a 4:45.23 to earn a spot in the final.
Behing McCarthy was Teagan O’Dell. The #2 ranked recruit in the high school class of 2025 swam to a 4:46.34, faster than her old best time of a 4:46.73 that she swam back in 2021. The Cal commit is more known for her 200 IM but posting this time in the 400 IM shows her versatility.
NYU commit for this fall Max Nechydyuk highlighted the boys side as he swam to a win in the 400 IM touching in a 4:25.78. That marked a best time by almost five seconds as his previous best time was as 4:30.57 from March of this year. Nechydyuk looks to make a huge impact at NYU as his SCY best time of a 3:48.42 already would have won the NCAA title this past season by about three seconds.
Tennessee commit Ben Bricca swam to a win in the 100 back with a 55.79, about half a second off his life time best of a 55.25 that he swam in March. Blake Rowe, a Purdue commit, swam to 2nd in a best time of a 56.25, faster than his previous best of a 56.39 from May.
16 year old Mike Rice swam to a 50.53 in the 100 freestyle, just 0.01 off his best time of a 50.52 that he swam in May.
That O’Dell McCarthy race was fun. Even with quite a few empty seats the pool got a fun level of loud. I think the fire alarm making us evacuate right before the women’s 2 fly on night one impacted attendance tonight. Regardless some fun races tonight for sure.
