The 2023 Hungarian National Championships kick off tomorrow, Wednesday, April 19th with the 4-day affair representing the primary World Championships qualifying meet.

Many of the nation’s big guns are entered in the competition, with the exception of Olympian Katinka Hosszu who last month revealed she is expecting her first child.

At the 2022 World Championships, the nation of Hungary finished 7th in the overall medal table but claimed just two pieces of hardware in all. Both golds came from Olympic champion Kristof Milak who topped the 100m fly and 200m fly podiums, establishing an eye-popping new World Record of 1:50.34 in the latter.

Milak is entered in the 50m/100m/200m fly events, as well as the 50m/100m/200m free for these championships.

Can this guy pull off an elite 2free?
By elite I mean something that’ll make it worth his effort, aka a podium time(1.44 low?)- otherwise no point.

The effort was partly worthy with the Euro gold with NR in the 800 relay, but I see no way he can fit the 200 free in his schedule instead of the 100. Should he focus on it, he could easily get to 1.44 low.

Kenderesi is not entered. He hasn’t competed since last June and no reason was given. We might have an answer for the rumors.

Seems like they must be close in that investigation, doesn’t it? How long can they sit on a positive doping test?

It wasn’t per say a positive doping test. It was an irregular biological passport.

He isn’t entered in any event that would be particularly unexpected for him as opposed to what he hinted at last year.
