Katie Ledecky Now Holds Top 20 Performances All-Time In Women’s 1500 Freestyle After 15:30.02

Katie Ledecky broke her own Olympic Record in the women’s 1500 freestyle en route to gold swimming a 15:30.02. That broke her previous record of a 15:37.34 from Tokyo.

Ledecky’s time today also writes history as she now holds the top 20 performances all-time. She has swam under the 15:38.88 second mark 20 times. Lotte Friis of Denmark sits at #2 in history as she swam a 15:38.88 in 2009, which now sits as the #21 performance in history.

Ledecky was out faster today than she was in Tokyo. At the 400 mark, Ledecky was a 4:04.27 today compared to a 4:06.98 that she swam in Tokyo. She also was notably out under World Record pace today, although she eventually fell off that pace, she still got under her Olympic Record by a significant margin. Today, she kept splitting 31lows today throughout most of her race, compared to 31mids in Tokyo.

This was the 2nd time that the women’s 1500 free was ever competed in at the Olympics and Ledecky is 2 for 2 in wins. She now has eight individual Olympic gold medals.
