Maili Simons from Herriman, Utah has made a verbal commitment to Illinois State University for 2020-21. She will join Cassidy Carey, Dee Dee Walker, Izzy Harder, Mikayla Jasek, and Olivia Gonder in the class of 2024.

Simons swims for Olympus High School and Olympus Aquatics in Salt Lake City. She specializes mainly in breaststroke and was runner-up in the 100 breast (1:05.46) and 10th in the 200 IM (2:15.67) at the 2019 Utah 5A State Swimming Championships. She also swam breast (29.65) on the 3rd-place medley relay. Simons is coming off a strong summer season in which she notched PBs in a number of events including the 100m breast (1:13.19 for a Summer Juniors cut) and 200m breast (2:41.66) at Western Zone Senior Championships. She competed at Speedo Junior Nationals in the 100 breast and she time-trialed the 200 breast.
Illinois State will graduate its top breaststrokers after this season. Jensen Keck (1:02.80/2:18.52 last season) and Janise Everest (1:06.05/2:26.97) are both seniors this year but Simons will overlap for two years with Julia Oostman (1:06.88/2:30.84). Simons’s best times would have scored in the A final of the 200 breast and the B final of the 100 breast at 2019 MVC Championships.
