Versatile Izzy Harder Makes Verbal Commitment to Illinois State Redbirds

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Naperville, Illinois’s Izzy Harder has verbally committed to Illinois State University for 2020-21. She will join class of 2024 commits Cassidy Carey, Dee Dee Walker, Mikayla Jasek, and Olivia Gonder in new head coach Caitlin Hamilton’s first recruiting class.

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Illinois State University. Special thanks to my family, coaches, teachers, and friends who have help me get to where I am now. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without you! #goredbirds”

Harder is a senior at Neuqua Valley High School; she swims year-round for Fox Valley Swim Team. In high school swimming last fall, she competed in the 200 free and 500 free at the Illinois High School State Championships. Her best 500 free comes from last high school season but she earned her 50/200/1000 free times at Illinois Swimming Senior Short Course Championships in February. There, she placed 11th in the 1000 free and 12th in the 200. This summer, she finished long-course season with PBs in the 100/200/400 free at Sectionals and in the 50 free and 100 fly at NCSA Summer Championship.

Illinois State finished fifth of eight teams at the 2019 MVC Championships. Harder would have been among the Redbirds’ top 5 for the season in the 200 free, 500 free, 1000 free, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM. She would have scored at conference in the A final of the 200 free, the B final of the 500 free and 400 IM, and the C finals of the 100/200 fly and 200 IM.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 free – 1:53.08
  • 500 free – 5:06.79

Some swimmers don’t want to finish 13th in a 10 team conference and swim for a team worse than their club team
