For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Ohio high school state qualifier Daylin Drayton has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Southern Indiana beginning in the fall of 2027, becoming the program’s first publicized commit in its class of 2031. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m extremely grateful and excited to share my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at The University of Southern Indiana! I want to thank God, my family, my teammates and the many coaches who’ve guided me during my swimming journey. A special Thank You to Coach Kainer, Coach Alyx and USI Swim & Dive for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity! GO SCREAGLES! ❤️🦅💙 #TalonsUp
Drayton is heading into her senior year at Springboro High School, where she has competed for the school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her freshman season. She also currently trains year-round with the Mason Manta Rays, primarily specializing in sprint freestyle and backstroke.
Drayton is coming off a 2025-26 short course season that saw her drop over a second in the 200 free, nearly a second in the 200 back, about half a second in both the 100 free and 100 back, and a quarter of a second in the 50 free. She set all of her current lifetime bests across various club meets throughout the season. She clocked 53.23 in the 100 free at the RAYS City of Mason Invitational in November, 1:56.94 in the 200 free at the MAKO Holiday Classic in December, 24.36 in the 50 free at the Southwest Ohio Classic in January, 58.31 in the 100 back at the OHSAA State Championships in February, and 2:05.81 in the 200 back at the Tim Myers Short Course Championships in March.
She is a two-time qualifier for the OHSAA State Championships for Springboro High; she placed 20th in the 100 back this season after touching 22nd in her debut at the meet as a sophomore.
Top SCY Times:

A Division I Mid-Major program, Southern Indiana competes in the Summit League against fellow midwestern schools like Denver and South Dakota. The Screaming Eagles are a relatively young team, with their inaugural season having been during the 2022-2023 academic year. The women’s team placed sixth out of seven teams at the 2025 Summit League Championships, equaling the school’s highest-ever finish.
With two full seasons of training to go before lining up for her first conference meet, Drayton is not far off conference scoring times. Times of 23.97, 52.75, and 1:55.24 were needed to score in the 50, 100, and 200 free, while 57.86 and 2:04.87 were needed in the 100 and 200 backstroke.
