Indiana High School State Champion Alex Koo Verbally Commits to Penn for 2027-28

Fishers, Indiana native Alex Koo has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Pennsylvania for the 2027-28 school year and beyond. He wrote on social media:

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to the admissions process at the University of Pennsylvania, to continue my academic and athletic career. I would like to thank Coach Keller, Coach Alec, my teammates, friends, and family for their endless support. I also want to give a big thank you to Coach Mike, Coach Andrew, and Coach Emma for this incredible opportunity and their support through this process. Go Quakers!”

A rising senior at Fishers High School, Koo is the reigning Indiana state champion in the 100 fly. He clocked a PB of 48.15 in both the prelims and finals to claim the 100 fly title at the 2026 IHSAA Boys State Swimming and Diving Championships. He also placed 2nd in the 50 free (20.21) and contributed legs to the 200 free (20.16 leadoff) and 200 medley (21.43 butterfly) relays.

Koo does his year-round swimming with Fishers Area Swimming Tigers. He kicked off the 2026 long-course season with PBs in the 100 free (52.92), 50 fly (26.38), 200 fly (2:09.74), and 400 IM (4:46.92) at the Indy Spring Cup in May. A month later, he notched PBs in the 50 free (23.83), 50 fly (25.92), and 100 fly (56.76) at TYR Pro Series Indy.

  • 100 free – 45.05
  • 200 free – 1:39.04
  • 50 fly – 22.32
  • 100 fly – 48.15
  • 200 fly – 1:49.37

Koo will join Alex Daile, Ben Liang, Eric Chen, Julian Willoughby, Lysander Mihaly, and Zaid Nazif in the Quakers’ class of 2031. His best 200 free time would have scored in the ‘C’ final at the 2026 Ivy League Men’s Championships.
