HANOVER, N.H. – Harvard men’s swimming and diving opened its 2022-23 campaign on Friday and defeated Dartmouth and Cornell in an Ivy League double-dual meet at the Big Green’s Karl Michael and Spaulding Pools. The Crimson downed Dartmouth, 231.00-68.00, and the Big Red by a score of 211.50-88.50.

With the victories, Harvard improved to 79-11 all-time vs. the Big Green and 58-2 against the Big Red. The Crimson has emerged victorious in 50 consecutive outings vs. Dartmouth and in 15 straight matchups against Cornell. Kevin Tyrell, The Ulen-Brooks Endowed Coach for Harvard Men’s Swimming & Diving, meanwhile, moved to 71-7 in head-to-head competition.

Harvard Highlights

• The Crimson set pool records in four events on the day – the 200 medley relay, 100 back, 200 back and 200 free.
• The quartet of Anthony Rincon, Jared Simpson, Umitcan Gures and Ryan Linnihan set the facility record when it finished the 200 medley relay in 1:28.35, capturing first place in the process.
• Will Grant established two pools records on his own after winning the 100 back (47.58) and 200 back (1:45.56). In both instances, Rincon finished in second place (48.08 – 100 back; 1:47.42 – 200 back).
• To end the day, Marcus Holmquist, Aayush Deshpande, David Greeley and Linnihan etched their names in the Dartmouth facility record book, taking the 200 free relay in 1:21.62.
• Outside of its four pool records, Harvard won 10 other events. Shane Washart won the 1,000 free (9:21.64) and 500 free (4:32.99). Luke Foster swept the diving competitions, posting a score of 361.65 in the 1-meter and 361.65 in the 3-meter. Jared Simpson was also a double-winner, claiming the 100 breast (55.84) and the 200 breast (2:02.62), with Holmquist taking the 100 (44.83) and 200 free (1:39.39).
• Other winners on the day included Linnihan (50 free; 20.61) and Gures (100 fly; 48.42).

HANOVER, N.H. – The Cornell men’s swim and dive team took down Dartmouth, 190.5-109.5, to open the 2022-23 Ivy slate on Friday, November 11. In the same meet, Cornell fell to Harvard, 210.5-89.5. The Big Red recorded at least one top-three finisher in 11 different events.

The Big Red opened the day with a second place finish overall in the 200 yard Medley Relay. Sophomore Will Taner pulled the anchor with a team-best 20.41 second time. The full group notched a time of 1:30.75. Cornell’s Chris Kostelni touched the wall at third in the 1000 yard Freestyle and 500 yard Freestyle.

Senior Paige daCosta grabbed third in the Men’s 100 yard Backstroke, finishing with a time of 50.13 seconds. Jacob Bass also finished at third in the 100 yard Breaststroke with a time of 56.47. Bass grabbed second in the 200 yard Breaststroke, finishing just over a second behing Harvard.

In the 200 yard Butterfly, Cornell finished 1-2 thanks to performances by Joseph Gurski, who touched the wall at 1:50.95, and Jacques Grove, who finished at 1:53.67. This marked the only top of the podium finish by the Red on the day.

Jeremy Marcin placed second in the 50 yard Freestyle with a time of 20.81. Just .2 seconds separated Marcin and the Harvard finisher who snagged first.

Gurski and Marcin finished 2-3 in the 100 yard Butterfly, with only a .02 separation between the two.

Sebastian Wolff was the final single podium finisher on the day, earning second in the 200 yard IM, only .03 seconds behind Dartmouth.

The Big Red rounded out the day with a second place finish by Jeremy Marcin, Will Taner, Pearce Bailey, and Daniel Simoes in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay

The Big Red men’s swimming and diving team next host Princeton and Penn for two pool days. Diving will be hosted on Friday, November 18, followed by a swim meet on Saturday, November 19.

HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men’s swimming and diving team faced Cornell and Harvard in a double dual meet Friday at Karl Michael Pool. The Big Green fell to Cornell by a score of 186.50-113.50, and Harvard, 231-68.

“The men put up a fight and while we didn’t come away with the overall win, we certainly made improvements and saw good things,” said head coach Milana Socha. “Joe Moll’s victory in the 200 IM had the fans in the stands on their feet. Everett Tai dove well on both boards, besting Cornell on each. Yan Dvoretskiy swam a much smarter race in the 1000 free than he did last week and dropped a ton of time as a result. Tim Park stayed consistent with strong performances, beating all the swimmers from Cornell in both his individual events. We are getting better every time we compete and will be hungry for our next competition in December.”

Joe Moll won the 200 yard IM over both Harvard and Cornell with a first-place time of 1:53.02, edging Cornell’s Sebastian Wolff. Moll also gave Dartmouth a win over Cornell in the 200 back, placing third with a time of 1:49.18.

Alexander Ye, who placed third in the 200 IM behind Moll and above all Harvard athletes, swam a lifetime best in his 50 fly split of the A medley relay. Yan Dvoretskiy also garnered a personal best, doing so in the 1000 free, placing fourth with a time of 9:37.41. The freshman dropped over 10 seconds from his time in the event last weekend.

The Big Green defeated Cornell in the 200 free with Tim Park’s second-place finish, swimming a 1:40.15. Colton Rasmussen placed fifth in the event with a season-best time of 1:41.94, also outswimming Cornell. Park also helped Dartmouth best the Big Red in the 100 free when he placed third with a season-best 45.85 mark.

Everett Tai outscored all Cornell divers on the 3-meter board, earning a 292.55.

The Dartmouth men’s swimming and diving team returns to action Thursday, Dec. 1, traveling to Oxford, Ohio to compete in the Miami University Invitational.
