NORFOLK, Va. – GW swimming and diving rolled to a sweep of Old Dominion in a two-day meet at J.C. Scrap Chandler Pool.
The Buff and Blue men finished off a 187-120 victory on Saturday, while the women triumphed by a score of 186-127.
Marek Osina led the way on the men’s side by winning four individual events, and on Friday evening, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Karol Mlynarczyk, Dylan Koo, Durde Matic and Tyler Kawakami set a pool record with their winning time of 1:23.12.
The women showcased their depth with eight different swimmers claiming individual events, and they also touched first in all four relays. Rookie Moriah Freitas was a double winner taking both butterfly races.
WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
– Freitas earned a win in the 200 fly in 2:08.89 by edging teammate Molly Smyers by five-hundredths of a second on Friday before taking the 100 fly in 57.38 seconds on Saturday.
– Becca Brown and Marlee Rickert were both part of all four relay wins. The Buff and Blue took the 400 medley (3:50.87), 200 free (1:36.81), 200 medley (1:46.23) and 400 free (3:33.20) relays.
– Rickert won the 200 back in 2:05.39, while Brown took the top spot in the 50 free in 24.10 seconds.
– Rookie Julia Knox‘s winning time of 4:28.72 in the 400 IM cracked the program’s all-time top list, checking in at No. 7.
– GW demonstrated its distance strength. Andrea Moussier won the 1,000 free in 10:41.21 by a second over teammate Taylor Bernosky, and Erin McCarthy won the 500 free in 5:07.94 with Carly Perri second and Bernosky third.
– Perri (200 free, 1:54.43) and Andrea Ho (100 back, :59.14) also recorded individual wins.
– In the diving events, Dara Reyblat led on the 1-meter board (240.68), and Carolina Stocchi was tops on 3-meter (207.98).
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
– Osina continued his terrific start to the season with wins in the 200 free (1:41.64), 200 fly (1:52.43), 200 back (1:48.98) and 400 IM (4:00.43). The senior’s 200 back time landed him a spot on the program’s all-time top 10. He was also part of GW’s win in the 400 medley relay (3:24.88) on Friday, teaming with Matic, Mlynarczyk and Koo.
– GW’s record time in the 200 free relay ranks among the top 10 in the country early this season.
– A first-year from Carmel, Calif., Connor Rodgers won both the 500 free (4:42.88) and 200 IM (1:54.98).
– Matic’s winning time of 48.83 seconds in the 100 fly is good for the No. 6 spot on the program’s all-time top 10.
– Bode Ringenbach (200 breast, 2:07.95), Philip Moldovanu (1,000 free, 9:38.06) and Karol Mlynarczyk (100 back, :50.19) also picked up individual wins.
– Spencer Bystrom led the Buff and Blue on both diving boards with a 1-meter score of 276.15 and a 3-meter score of 291.98.
UP NEXT: GW has a break from competition for the next three weekends before heading to Pittsburgh for a head-to-head meet on Nov. 6.

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University men’s and women’s swimming fell to George Washington in the season opener at the J.C. Scrap Chandler Pool this weekend. GW won the women’s meet 186-127, while the Colonials’ men’s team won 187-120.
GW held the lead coming into day two, but Summer Miln won the first event on Saturday with a time of 52.70 in the 100 freestyle. Noah Wilkins won the men’s 100 freestyle with a time of 46.02, while Liam Redman came in second with a time of 47.42.
Tara Enneking won a pair of events on Friday night and continued winning on Saturday, taking first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:22.23.
Jacob Cobb earned a win in the 400 IM with a time of 4:14.26, while Hugo Eriksson came in second with a time of 4:25.60.
The final race of the day was the 400 freestyle relay, with the men’s and women’s teams coming out on top. The women’s squad of Miranda Byrne, Madeline Willson, Tara Enneking and Summer Miln had a time of 3:33.32, while the men’s team of Redman, Liam Garbutt, Ryan Lincicum and Noah Wilkins won the 400 freestyle with a time of 3:04.17.
ODU returns to the pool at Davidson on Friday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m.
