Three swimmers, Joanna Evans, Dylan Carter, and Timothy Wynter, swam FINA ‘B’ cuts at yesterday’s Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships. The trio add their names to the Bahamas’ Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace (who hit a ‘B’ standard in the 100 fly) and Roy-Allan Burch of Bermuda (who was in a wheelchair a year ago and yesterday swam a ‘B’ 50 free) on the list of ‘B’ qualifiers this meet.
The CISCs are taking place in the Bahamas and will run through July 2nd, with the meet representing the final opportunity for Olympic qualification for some nations.
Evans, a Bahamas native, posted a 2:02.95 to score a FINA ‘B’ qualifying time in the 200 free, winning the event and coming in .18 under the cut. Evans is a rising sophomore at the University of Texas.
The top two finishers in the 100 meter back, Carter of Trinidad and Tobago and Wynter of Jamaica, each took FINA ‘B’ cuts in the event. Carter won in 56.05, while Wynter took second with 56.15. The FINA ‘B’ cut is 56.26. The duo both swim for the University of Southern California.
Perhaps the most anticipated events of the meet will be the 50 freestyles on Saturday, where both Vanderpool-Wallace and Burch will chase after the FINA ‘A’ marks.
