East Carolina swimming and diving overtook UNC Wilmington on both the men’s and women’s sides on Saturday. The men ended the meet with a score of 203-136, while the women’s decision was 212-130.

GREENVILLE, N.C. — The East Carolina men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each posted victories in their meet with UNC Wilmington Saturday afternoon. The men’s team collected 11 1-2 finishes in a 203-136 decision, while the women’s team swept the top two spots in 10 events to claim a 212-130 victory over the Seahawks as both ECU teams improved to 2-1 this season.
The first half of the meet was held Friday evening at Seahawk Natatorium on the UNCW campus and then concluded inside Minges Natatorium on the ECU campus this afternoon, marking the first meet between the two schools since 2009.
The men’s and women’s team each won seven of the eight events held Friday night, while the ladies posted nine wins Saturday with the men capturing first-place in 10 events. Eight individuals posted multi-event victories with the Pirates winning 34 of the 38 events.
“It was a great weekend of swimming and diving,” Pirate head coach Rick Kobe said. “I’m very pleased with how we competed this weekend, posting some very fast early season times.”
ECU senior Bailie Monahan won three individual events and was a part of two first-place relay teams. She set the Seahawk Natatorium record in the 200-yard butterfly Friday night, while also touching first in the 200-yard IM. Monahan returned home to win the 200-yard freestyle Saturday.
Sophomore Julie Lajoie and senior Anastasia Amoiroglou also posted multi-event wins. Lajoie touched first in the 400-yard IM and the 1000-yard freestyle, while Amoiroglou won the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.
Sophomore Boleck De Pawlikowski led the men with three individual wins, claiming victories in the 200-yard backstroke, 400-yard IM and 1000-yard freestyle. Junior Adam Dear swept the butterfly events and William Hicks won both breaststroke races. Senior Michael Dugan captured first-place in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle, while junior Fran Krznaric was the fastest swimmer in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM.
In the diving well, sophomore Scottie Kent posted the meet’s top scores on both the 1 and 3-meter springboard competitions, as did junior Ashley Sams on the women’s side. The Pirates also claimed victory in seven of the eight relay events.
East Carolina returns to dual meet competition Saturday, Nov. 7 with the swimming teams squaring off against Campbell and Gardner-Webb in Buies Creek, N.C. The diving teams will be in action in Greensboro with a meet against Clemson and Richmond.

UNC-Wilmington:
GREENVILLE, North Carolina – Catherine Gargula won the women’s 200 Backstroke for UNCW, but East Carolina finished off a sweep of this weekend’s meet on Saturday at Minges Natatorium.
The Pirates posted a 203-136 win over the Seahawks in the men’s meet and added a 212-130 victory on the women’s side.
Gargula, who won the 100 Backstroke on Friday, finished off a sweep of the backstroke events with a winning time of 2:05.37. Her event win was the only one on the day for UNCW as ECU exhibitioned the final eight races.
The Seahawks return to action on Oct. 31-Nov. 1 with a Colonial Athletic Association pod meet in Newark, Del.
