Distance Swimmer Carly Joerin Verbally Commits to Dartmouth

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Carly Joerin, a distance free and IM swimmer from Tampa, Florida, has announced her verbal commitment to the application process* at Dartmouth College. She will join the Big Green in the fall of 2022.

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to the application process at Dartmouth! I chose Dartmouth because of the outstanding academic opportunities, amazing swim program, welcoming team, and spectacular coaches. I would not be where I am today without the endless support of my family, friends, and coaches. Go Big Green!!“

Joerin is a rising senior at Tampa’s Freedom High School whom she represented at the 2020 Florida High School 3A State Championships last fall, placing 7th in the 200 free (1:56.03) and 11th in the 500 free (5:03.06). She also contributed a leg (53.85) to the 3rd-place 400 free relay.

Joerin swims club with Tampa Elite Aquatics. This spring she earned lifetime bests in all her top events (500/1000/1650 free and 200/400 IM) as well as the 100 back and 200 breast, at the Florida Swimming Spring Senior Championships South. She was a top-8 finisher in the 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free, 200 breast, and 400 IM, and she placed 9th in the 200 IM. She also competed at 18&U Spring Cup in Orlando, finishing 11th in the 800 free and 12th in the 400 IM.

Top SCY times:

  • 1650 free – 17:04.80
  • 1000 free – 10:08.90
  • 500 free – 5:00.89
  • 400 IM – 4:24.49
  • 200 IM – 2:07.47

Dartmouth cut, then reinstated, its swimming and diving teams. Head coach Jamie Holder, who had taken Dartmouth from 8th of 8 teams in 2018 to 6th, with two individual Ivy League champions, in 2019, declined the offer to return to the reinstated program. Jesse Moore was hired in April 2021; the Dartmouth class of 2026 will be his first recruit class.

*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to [email protected].

Congrats to Carly and the new staff! I think Jesse Moore should be listed as the new head coach, not Lianne McClusky (who is an assistant).

Lianne McClusky was hired on as the assistant coach last month. Jesse Moore is the head coach, so I think more accurate is that it is Jesse’s first recruiting class.
