Christine Magnuson Added to US World Championships Roster

One veteran sprinter has been swapped for another on the American roster for the 2012 Short Course World Championships, as Olympian Kara Lynn Joyce is out, and Christine Magnuson is in.

Magnuson has plenty of international experience on her resume, having made the squad for the season’s major championship team every year from 2008 through 2011. That includes a pair of silver medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and a gold medal from last year’s World Championships as a prelims swimmer on the 400 medley relay.

The vast majority of that swimming, though, has been as a butterflier, and she heads to Istanbul instead as a sprint butterflier: she was the 3rd-place finisher at the Olympic Trials in the 50, and thus will get Joyce’s spot there. In finals of that race in Omaha, Joyce charged hard to the finish to pick off Magnuson by .05 seconds.

The new updated roster is below, with asterisks (*) denoting 2012 Olympians:

Please add Missy Franklin and Katie Ledecky to this roster! It would be so much faster with them.
