Carmel Swim Club’s Aaron Shackell swam to two wins on night two in Indianapolis. Aaron battled it out with fellow US Olympian Kieran Smith in the 200 free. Aaron Shackell earned the win in a 1:47.04 while Smith touched in a 1:47.20. Aaron swam a 1:46.35 at this meet a year ago before finishing 8th in the event at US Trials in a 1:47.37. Smith was 4th in the event at Trials in a 1:45.61 and swam on the US 4×200 free relay in Paris.
Younger brother Andrew Shackell touched in a 53.84 in the 100 fly, just 0.12 ahead of Thomas Mercer who touched in a 53.96. Andrew dropped from his best time of a 55.87 while Mercer, a Virginia commit, dropped about half a second off his lifetime best of a 54.68.
Also highlighting the night was Audrey Derivaux. Last night, the 15 year old climbed the 15-16 age group rankings to sit at #4 in the 200 back. Tonight, she climbed the rankings in the girls 400 IM posting a 4:41.48 in the 400 IM. That dropped 3.75 seconds from her previous lifetime best of a 4:45.23 that she swam in prelims of US Trials last summer for 8th, earning her a spot in the final. Her time tonight would have been 7th at US Trials in the 400 IM, just behind Lucy Bell. Derivaux now sits at #16 in the 15-16 ager group.
Alex Shackell swam to her own win posting a 58.01 in the girls 100 fly. She was slightly faster in prelims with a 57.64. Her lifetime best is a 56.78 that she swam in semifinals at US Trials last summer for 4th. She went on to scratch the event, instead focusing on the 200 free which she made the US Olympic Team in as a member of the relay. She also swam the 200 fly in Paris as well as the fly leg in prelims of the women’s 4×100 medley relay.
Charlotte Crush swam two events on the night, touching 2nd behind Shackell in the 100 fly in a 59.32. She has been as fast as 58.19 before. She earned a win in the 200 free with a 2:01.19, dropping over two seconds off her lifetime best of a 2:03.24 that she swam at this meet a year ago.
Winning the boys 400 IM was Yi Zheng who swam to a 4:22.36 for the win but was slightly faster in prelims with a 4:22.21. The swims were huge personal best times as Zheng entered the meet with a lifetime best of a 4:28.91.
Yi zheng is the goat
why is no one talking about yi zheng he is so goated
Yi Zheng im your biggest fan
Why are people saying Andrew Shackell like hes real. Hes not a real person!
Andrew Shackell doesn’t exist
andrew shackell won 100 fly not aaron
Andrew Shackell isnt a real person please stop this nonsense
Why is this meet in LCM when all the rest of them are in yards?
Because the zone voted to do it that way I think.
Only one zone making the sensible choice. Do better USA!
Hard disagree. Sectional meets are about 99% of swimmers who will never sniff the Olympics and care way more about SCY. Esp since a lot of teams don’t have the opportunity to train that much LCM in the winter.
Actually there is a LC sectional meet in FL in Feb every year. And others have occasionally done spring LC during Olympic years.
