Day 2 of the 2022 FINA World Championships featured the championship finals of the men’s 100 breaststroke, men’s 50 butterfly, women’s 100 butterfly, and women’s 200 IM. Team USA picked up a total of 6 medals on day two, with 1-3 finishes in the women’s 200 IM–Alex Walsh and Leah Hayes–respectively, and men’s 50 butterfly–Caeleb Dressel and Michael Andrew, respectively–including a new World Junior Record in the IM from Hayes.

The semifinals of the men’s 200 freestyle also yielded a new World Junior Record in Romania’s David Popovici‘s 1:44.40, while the semis of the men’s 100 backstroke nearly saw Greece’s Apostolos Christou crack the 52-second barrier.

Team USA’s Regan Smith leads the way in the women’s 100 backstroke, while 2016 Olympic champion Lilly King sits 8th going into the finals of the 100 breaststroke.
