Winter Juniors Qualifier George Brooker Commits to Join Navy in Fall 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

George Brooker from Carlsbad, California has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at the United States Naval Academy beginning in fall 2022.

I am extremely honored to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at The United States Naval Academy. I want to thank my friends, family, and coaches for all the endless support over the years. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to serve our country and I cannot wait to join the brotherhood! Go Navy! Beat Army!”

Brooker swims for North Coast Aquatics (NCA) out of Carlsbad, California, a suburb of San Diego. He most recently competed at the Western Zone Senior Championships and achieved long course best times in all of his individual events. He swam lifetime bests in the 100 freestyle (55.58), 200 freestyle (2:00.08), 100 backstroke (59.07), 200 backstroke (2:07.44), 200 IM (2:08.75), 400 IM (4:33.63). In April 2021, he achieved his first Winter Juniors cut in the short course 200 backstroke with a time of 1:48.92.

Brooker will enter his senior year this fall at Carlsbad High School. His best short course times are:

  • 100 backstroke: 51.99
  • 200 backstroke: 1:48.92
  • 200 IM: 1:51.82
  • 400 IM: 3:59.40
  • 200 butterfly: 1:54.51

The United States Naval Academy is located in Annapolis, Maryland, and is a member of the Patriot League.

The Patriot League did not host a conference championship meet this year due to COVID-19, but Navy won the conference title back at the 2020 meet. Brooker has the potential to add points for the Navy men at the conference level. His best 400 IM time would have finished 15th and his 200 backstroke would have finished 16th back in 2020. It took 50.50 to score in the 100 backstroke, 1:51.32 in the 200 IM, and 1:52.13 in the 200 butterfly.

This year at the 2021 NCAA Championships, the Navy men sent 9 competitors. Rising senior Caleb Mauldin competed in the 100 backstroke and finished 30th in a time of 46.71. Graduating senior Luke Johnson was the team’s highest individual finisher. He finished 26th in the 1650 with a time of 15:04.61. The team also finished 20th in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 6:20.96.

Brooker will join the Navy as a member of the class of 2026 along with Jacob Pishko, Nolan Jess, Jack Lambert, Juan Mora, Benjamin Denman-Grimm, and Charlie Krone.
