Where In the World Are Swimming National Teams? Team Locations Ahead of Tokyo

TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC GAMES

  • Swimming: Saturday, July 24 – Sunday, August 1, 2021
  • Tokyo, Japan

With exactly two weeks remaining before the first day of swimming competition in Tokyo, teams are beginning to come together in their final preparations before the Games. While some countries like the USA have come together for a destination camp, others are headed straight to Japan.

Below is a list of the current locations of select national teams.

Argentina – Dubai

Delfi Pignatiello shared a series of photos of herself in Dubai and included a shot of a pool. It appears to be the same pool that South Africa’s Chad Le Clos shared on his Instagram story today. It is unclear whether she traveled there alone or with the rest of the Argentinian team before heading to Japan.

Australia – Cairns, Australia

The Australians have begun their training at home. Alex Graham posted a photo with Kyle Chalmers, Mack Horton, and Jack McLoughlin at a pool in Queensland. Similarly, world record-holder Cate Campbell posted a series of stories on her page, mentioning that she had not yet traveled out of Australia.

Canada – Vancouver

Candian Olympic swimmers took part in a photoshoot today as they began their training for Tokyo.

The Canadians are training together in Vancouver. The swimmers appeared to be taking part in a photoshoot today, documented by Swimming Canada via their Instagram stories. Kierra Smith, Taylor Ruck, Brent Hayden, Ruslan Gaziev, Kayla Sanchez, Joshua Liendo, and Yuri Kisil were among the athletes shown in the photoshoot.

Denmark – Headed to Tokyo

Team Denmark is headed directly to Tokyo via Pernille Blume on Instagram

Pernille Blume announced that she was off to Tokyo today before documenting some of her trip on her stories. She was seen in the airport with the entire Danish team who opted to travel to Tokyo together.

 

Great Britain – Headed to Tokyo

Adam Peaty shared in a lengthy post that he would be traveling to Yokohama for a training camp with Great Britain. A few days before they are set to compete, the team will make the trip to Tokyo as they gear up to race.

France – Headed to Tokyo

Mélanie Henique shared on her Instagram story that she was headed to Japan.

Mehdy Metella and Mélanie Henique both mentioned on their stories that they were headed to Tokyo. The French swimmers shared photos of themselves at the airport, with their next stop being Japan.

Hungary – Japan

Katinka Hosszu shared multiple stories on her Instagram indicating that she and her teammates are in Japan.

Katinka Hosszu has landed in Japan. She and the rest of the Hungarian team have already begun their training for the 2020 Olympic Games. She posted a series of photos on her Instagram stories documenting the warm welcome they received upon their arrival.

Netherlands – Headed to Tokyo

The Netherlands’ swimmers are ready for their flight to Tokyo.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Nyls Korstanje of the Netherlands are off to Tokyo. They were at the airport this morning, making their way to Japan. They were wearing their national team clothes as they trekked through the terminals.

South Africa – Dubai

Chad Le Clos has documented that he is training in Dubai. It is unclear whether he is there with other swimmers, but he was seen entering a pool today. He is at the same location as Argentina’s team.

USA – Hawaii

Team USA has been training in Hawaii for about a week now. They are expected to train there for a bit longer before they head off to Japan for the Olympic Games. USA Swimming has shared multiple photos and videos of the training camp on its twitter page. The team has already celebrated multiple birthdays and the athletes appear to be enjoying their time together in the sun.

The larger part of the Hungarian team flew yesterday (Monday, July 12) to Tokyo.

I feel that ledecky should drop the 200 she is good but not the same as 4 years ago . Concentrate on the longer events and 200 relay

wouldn’t the USA want to get to tokyo earlier to adjust to the time zone? IlUnless it isn’t allowed?

Chad is the only SA swimmer in Dubai. The rest is traveling to Tokyo on Thursday this week.

“Football’s coming home” is a line from the popular Three Lions song by Skinner and Baddiel in 1996 when England hosted the Euros tournament.

As Dee says it’s very self depreciating about England’s football/soccer failures, considering they wrote the rules for the modern game in 1863.
