Carl Jenner, longtime coach of Swedish Olympic Gold Medalist Sarah Sjostrom, has been named as the Swedish National Team coach. This announcement came in the same week as news that Sjostrom would be parting ways with Jenner— the world record holder stated that she had been planning on making coaching changes prior to the Rio Olympics, however it is now unclear whether or not Jenner’s new role as national team coach was a result of the separation, the cause of the separation, or unrelated.
In his new role as national team coach, Jenner will work to assure the quality of environments where future national team swimmers and coaches work. He will also will work closely with coach Ulrika Sandmark to serve as a mentor and coach for you swimmers at international championships.
“It feels great that we can strengthen our team around talent with Carl in coming Olympic period. His knowledge and experience with coaching and training a swimmer from being young and promising to becoming Olympic champion, in the form of Sarah Sjostrom, is unique and invaluable” said Henrik Forsberg, sporting director of swimming. “One of Carl’s mission is to work with coach Ulrika Sandmark and other coaches piloting forward promising young swimmers to international championship medals.”
Carl will also act as coach at the NEC in Stockholm, where he will work together with current NEC coach Johan Wallberg. The development of the organization and operations of NEC, including focus on key people, will be in collaboration with Sweden‘s Olympic Committee.
