2025 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships: Initial Entries

2025 AQUATICS GB SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2025 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships are nearly upon us, with action kicking off at the London Aquatics Centre on Tuesday, April 15th.

The competition represents the primary qualification opportunity for the nation’s swimmers to add their names to the roster for this summer’s World Championships in Singapore.

Per the GBR selection criteria, a maximum roster size of 30 athletes may be selected, although several have already been nominated.

The Aquatics GB selection policy for Singapore states that any individual Olympic medalist from the 2024 Olympic Games will have earned a slot on the roster. Additionally, any relay medalist who raced in the Paris final has also booked his/her spot on the World Championships relay.

With that criteria in mind, the following athletes have already been penciled in for Singapore for Great Britain:

  • Ben Proud – men’s 50m free
  • Matt Richards – men’s 200m free, men’s 4x200m free relay
  • Duncan Scott – men’s 200m IM, men’s 4x200m free relay
  • Adam Peaty – men’s 100m breast
  • James Guy – men’s 4x200m free relay
  • Tom Dean – men’s 4x200m free relay

For the remainder of events, athletes will need to meet or exceed the Aquatics GB-mandated qualification standards in the table below while also finishing in the top two spots in each race:

Look for future posts highlighting the key matchups to watch as the competition unfolds. In the meantime, here are the high-profile athlete entries.

Medi not injured as she swam at Edinburgh but just seems a little off, might need a break it is a year since her mum passed and that was just before Olympic trials last year. Will be good to see Abbie doing 400IM again think she will beat Freya at that

The 15-18yo crop of male breaststrokers are, but some way, the best we’ve ever had. Six of the top ten 16 year olds over 100br have come over the past 18 months. Three of the top five too. One to watch who isn’t among them is Will Tonks, extremely fast 50 (28.2) for his age a couple of weeks ago, only a matter of time until it translates to his 100, he has the stroke for it.

No guarantees for the future, but there’s plenty to be hopeful about – Perhaps not this year though.

Wilby hasn’t really retired, but is on break and has said he was planning to retire after the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Doesn’t sound like he intends to swim to LA 2028.

Peaty has been a bit unclear about his intentions as well and left room open to return. Nothing I’ve heard sounds super hopeful, and at 30 years old, coming back at 31 or 32 from an extended break won’t necessarily yield the same results as we’re used to for him.

Dean took an extended break and doesn’t feel ready yet for 200s.

What does that mean for their 4×200?

There are plenty of 200free swimmers in the wings, think Jack Nacmillan. they will give more to a relay too
