Australia leads the medal table so far with four gold medals and enter as the #2 and #3 seeds in the final tonight. Shayna Jack swam a 52.72 in semifinals while Mollie O’Callaghan touched in a 52.75. Both were members of the Australian women’s 4×100 relay that won gold this week. Also in the final is World Record holder Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden as she swam a 52.87.

Kristof Milak of Hungary makes his return to the 200 fly final and is the World Record holder and defending champion in the event. Milak swam a 1:52.72 to lead the way. He will swim next to Leon Marchand of France who will swim both the 200 fly and 200 breast tonight. Marchand won the event at 2023 Worlds. Canadian Ilya Kharun is in search of his first Olympic medal after swimming a 1:54.01 in semifinals to be the #3 seed tonight.

Zhang Yufei set the Olympic Record in the 200 fly back in Tokyo and led through prelims with a 2:06.55 this morning. She will look to return to the final once again and potentially win China’s first gold of the meet tomorrow night as they have not won gold yet. Regan Smith of the US won silver in Tokyo and was 2nd this morning with a 2:06.99. Smith already won silver in the 100 back, doing so last night.

The women’s 1500 free is in its second edition of the Olympics and Katie Ledecky of the US looks to continue her success, entering finals as the top seed by about four seconds after swimming a 15:47.43 yesterday morning. Ledecky holds the World Record in the event after swimming a 15:20.48 in 2018. France will be represented in the final by Anastasiia Kirpichnikova who notably represented Russia at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

400 freestyle champion Lukas Maertens of Germany showed his versatility this morning posting the 2nd fastest time in the men’s 200 back with a 1:56.89. Leading the way in prelims was Switzerland’s Roman Mityukov who looks to make the final this year after finishing 13th in Tokyo. 2023 World Champion Hubert Kos of Hungary also looks to advance to the final along with Ryan Muprhy of the US, who won silver in Tokyo.

The top three seeds of the women’s 200 breast took the top 3 spots this morning. South Africa’s Tatjana Smith led the way with a 2:21.57. Smith is the defending champion in the event and set a World Record in her win in Tokyo. American Record holder Kate Douglass will swim next to Smith tonight after posting a 2:23.44 this morning. Tes Schouten of the Netherlands will look to set herself up for podium potential tomorrow night after swimming a 2:23.08 this morning.

On the back half of his double, Leon Marchand will swim out of lane 4 in the men’s 200 breast. Marchand swam a 2:08.11 in semifinals and will swim in front of his home crowd. Zac Stubblety-Cook of Australia is the defending Olympic Champion and looks to return to the podium after swimming a 2:08.57 in semifinals. Dong Zhihao of China won the event at the 2024 World Championships and is the #3 seed tonight with a 2:08.99.

The men’s 100 free final will conclude the night. World Record holder in the event Pan Zhanle of China enters as the top seed after swimming an outside smoke 47.21 yesterday. Pan will be next to Kyle Chalmers of Australia who won the event at the 2016 Rio Games. Chalmers, who swam a 47.58 last night, will swim out of lane 5 which has been the winning lane in the event at the last five Olympics. Will that turn into six?

Maxime Grousset of France will swim in front of the home crowd and has made the 2022 and 2023 Worlds podiums in the event. He swam a 47.63 last night. Also in the final is former World Record holder David Popovici of Romania who captured the country’s first gold medal in history after winning the 200 free this week.

If you say MOC is a 40% chance, ZSC is a 20% chance and KC a 30% chance then the chances are indeed slim at 2.4% chance of all 3 happening.

Alexy has a good medal chance today, but it would be shocking if walsh or huske won a medal in 100 free. Just sad that Heilman isn’t in this final; he could be a good medal threat with honda out
