Continuing with a streak of good news for Michael Phelps fans, which includes a wedding engagement, a possible re-entry onto the World Championships roster and a series of obscenely fast yards swims in Texas, the 22-time-Olympic medalist’s new brand partnership now seems to be nearing actuality.

As reported back in August of 2014, Phelps signed on with Aqua Sphere and did so in a very comprehensive way, with the company presenting the collaboration’s vision as one of an entire line of equipment and suits designed and heavily influenced by Phelps.

Since that time, we have seen few sneak peeks into what the brand’s line may look like, including its logo revealed at Germany’s Internationale Fachmesse für Sportartikel Und Sportmode (ISPO) trade show in February.  Now, the Aqua Sphere website provides a launch time frame – albeit vague – of April 2015, with the “MP” tech suit most likely being included in the initial release.

There is more to these suits than the just nylon fabric. Each manufacturer have their own science in the different fabrics that reduce drag or repel water or creates some legal buoyancy, but the process of bonding on these suits is an expensive process. If they come in at $150, human nature will say that the quality does not equal to the other manufacturers. Whether the quality is lesser or not. If they want it to be successful they must come in at a similar price.

There are some older suits made from the same material like the tyr tracer light and lzr pro that are in the mid to low $100’s so I know the overhead can’t be that high. With all of the competitors in the market, it makes no sense to me why the price isn’t driven down. If you look at mens tech suits on swimoutlet there is a brand… Read more »
