WEST CHESTER, PA – Ann Carozza (West Chester, Pa./East) broke her own pool record in the 200-yard butterfly, and West Chester’s women’s swimming team earned a pair of wins over Division I Lehigh and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon inside Graham Natatorium on South Campus.
West Chester (4-0) picked up a win over Lehigh for the first time since 2017 when both the men and women swept the Mountain Hawks – a feat the two combined to achieve again Saturday. On this day, the women won both relays and 11 individual events to easily outdistance their opponents.
Carozza got the Rams off to a hot start swimming a leg of the 400 medley relay that was a winner, and then taking first place in both the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly – all before the first break in the meet.
“That was a tough triple for her,” West Chester head coach Steve Mazurek said afterwards. “But, that’s how she trains.”
She would come back in the second session to win the 100 butterfly as well. Carozza clocked a time of 1 minute, 59.99 seconds to break her own pool record while winning the 200 fly. It marked the first time she came in under two minutes in that event in a dual meet before Halloween.
Keeley Durkin (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) won both the 500 free and the 1650 while placing second in the 200 free. The significance in that was that her second-place showing in the 200 free was the next event after she had just gotten out of the water from winning the mile.
Mikayla Niness (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) won two individual events and was part of the 200 free relay that was a winner. She took first place in both the 50 and the 100 free.
Isabella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) won the 100 breaststroke and swam a leg of the 200 free relay. Maddy Koehle (State College, Pa./State College Area) won the 200 breast while Sophia Gerhart (Spring Mills, Pa./Penn Valley Area) won the 400 individual medley and was second to Durkin in the 1650. Lila DiCarlo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) won the 100 backstroke.
On the diving boards, Evie Altland (Middletown, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) was second off the 3-meter and third off the 1-meter.
West Chester is off until the Total Performance Mid-Season Meet in Gambier, Ohio.

Benner touched the wall ahead of the 2021 PSAC Swimmer of the Year and All-American from Bloomsburg in the 100 free. That was payback for the 50 free where Thomas got the better of Benner, who finished second. Benner’s time of 45.96 seconds in the 100 free was his best dual meet time in college. Benner also was part of the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay that picked up wins Saturday.
Fink also swam both relays with Benner while picking up a win in the 100 back stroke and taking second in the 100 butterfly. Gabe Laslo (Wind Gap, Pa./Nazareth Academy), Paul Demesy (Saint-Ulrich, France) and Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) were all double winners individually Saturday as well. Laslo won both butterfly events while taking part in the 400 medley relay win. Demesy continued his dominance in distance events with wins in the 500 and 1650 free. Nagy won the 200 backstroke and the 400 individual medley.
A.J. McClurkin (Langehorne, Pa./Neshaminy) won the 200 breaststroke, and Nikita Pisarenko (Tallinn, Estonia) won the 100 breast while helping the 400 medley relay win.
Michael Robinson (Chester Springs, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Tyler Czeiner (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) led the way in the diving competition off both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
West Chester is off until the Total Performance Mid-Season Meet in Gambier, Ohio.
