The men’s and women’s swimming & diving squads hosted Connecticut in a dual meet on Friday afternoon. The women defeated UConn, 196-103, while the men were edged in a close finish, 178-116. The men’s and women’s 200 medley relay teams captured first place finishes for the Wildcats. The women’s team consisting of Darby Goodwin, Heather Farley, Micaela Grassi, and Taylor Wilson won with a time of 1:47.40. For the men, Andrew Kelley, Tyler Nussbaum, Jake Hoin, and Chris Paynter finished with a first place time of 1:32.71. “I thought our relay teams came ready and had a strong performance today,” Wildcats head coach Rick Simpsonsaid. “Our relays have been consistently solid throughout the season.” Individually, the women received strong performances from Milly Routledge, Darby Goodwin, Caitlin Daday and Alexa Fabbri who were each double winners. Farley won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.20) while also placing second in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.92). Daday won the 500 free (4:58.63) and 1,650 (17:16.14) while Fabbri finished first in the 200 free (1:51.33) and 100 fly (56.98). Goodwin took first in the 100 backstroke (56.68) and 200 backstroke (2:02.79) while Milly Routledge won the 50 free (23.63) and 100 free (51.59). Bridie Dunn earned the top spot on the 1-meter diving board with a score of 241.49. This is the first time Dunn has captured first this season on the 1-meter board. For the second meet in a row John Davidson earned two first places finishes for the men. He swam the 1,650 in a time of 16:21.96, with his other first place finish coming in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:44.49. Jake Hoin took first place for the Wildcats in the 100 Butterfly (50.40) and second in the 50 freestyle (21.39). Stephen Krecsmarcaptured third place in the 100 Freestyle (47.02), 200 freestyle (1:44.36), and 100 Butterfly (51.66). “We had to adjust and move some people to different events due to injury, and I thought they stepped up when they needed to. We looked good today against a strong team in UConn,” Simpson said. Next for Wildcats is a home dual meet against Ursinus on Sat. Jan. 20. All events will begin at 1 p.m. and can be followed on the Meet Mobile App. All final results will be posted to the website at the conclusion of the meet.

The UConn swimming and diving team split their dual meet at Villanova on Friday afternoon at the Pavilion Pool. The men’s team captured a 178-116 victory while the women’s team suffered its first dual meet loss of the season, 196-103.
“ It was a challenging night of racing for our team tonight. We are in a period of heavy training and it showed as we were a bit heavy in the water tonight,” said head coach Chris Maiello. “We will keep working towards our goals for our conference championships next month. We are also looking forward to honoring our SR. class next week at home vs Dartmouth, our team always gets up for SR. day and I would expect our performances to improve.”
The men’s team secured nine first place finishes on the day with sophomore Will Kearsey leading the way with three victories on the afternoon. Kearsey logged wins in the 100 Back (50.09), 200 Back (1:50.67) and 50 Free (21.35).
Mark Hunter swept the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events with a 57.61 time in the 100 and 2:04.79 in the 200 race.
In the men’s 100-yard freestyle Kyle Dunlap and Kyle Kimura took the top two spots, while in the 200 Free Andre Kuhnplaced first and Kimura claimed another second place finish.
The women nabbed a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the combination of Megan Wenman, Jackie Van Lew, Brazil Rule and Dani Bordes swimming a time of 1:38.59.Freshman David May and senior Patrick Kavanaugh grabbed 13 points for the Huskies with their 1-2 placement in the 200-yard butterfly. The men closed out the meet in the 200 IM with a first place finish for Matthew Dagenais (1:53.47).
In the 200 IM the Huskies swept the event with Jennie Novak (2:08.83), Julie Hu (2:12.90) and Georgia Apostolu (2:12.98) grabbing 16 points.
Sophomore Kiley Stotler capped the night with a victory in the 200 Breast (2:20.92)
On the boards, Junior Dan Kinney notched victories in the 1M and 3M dives with a posted score of 271.72 on the 1M board and 292.27 on the 3M board. On the women’s end, freshman Erin Clifford captured a win in the 3M dive (255.07) and placed second (229.05) during the 1M competition
The Huskies celebrate Senior Day at their final home dual-meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. against Dartmouth. The seniors will be honored prior to the meet beginning at 12:40 p.m. Please plan to arrive earlier than usual due to the women’s basketball game that afternoon at Gampel Pavilion.
