LA JOLLA, CALIF. – UC San Diego’s swim teams wrapped their home competition on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Canyonview Aquatic Center as both squads defeated California Baptist University.
The Triton women scored 206.5 points to the Lancers’ 55.50 and the Triton men scored 162 points to the Lancers’ 100.
ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE
Opening the meet in the 200 yard medley relay, the Triton women took first and second for 15 points. Madison O’Connell, Chloe Braun, Eva Boehlke, and Mackenzie Lee swam a time of 1:39.43. Going one for two again, Mia Park and Gabi Icheva took first and second in the 1650 freestyle. Park posted a time of 17:31.19 for nine points. Icheva posted a time of 17:34.04 to take four points. Sweeping the 200 free, the Triton women took first through fourth with Sophia bell leading the way at 1:49.20. Bell was followed by Audrey Moore, Asia Kozan, and O’Connell.
Boehlke took first in the 100 back with a time of 54.87 and Teagan Monroe following in second with a time of 56.17. Coming within a second of her school record, Chloe Braun won the 100 breast posting a time of 1:01.11 with Hayley Gregory finishing second with a time of 1:01.93. Sweeping another event, Edana Huang led the Triton women in the 200 fly taking first with a time of 2:01.47. In second and third, Kelsey Leung posted a time of 2:02.40 and Sanne Dequine posted a time of 2:02.74. Brooke Shumway and Minh-Nha Kawamura took fourth and fifth.
In the 50 free, O’Connell took second with a time of 23.43 and was followed by Jasmine Phuong in third with a time of 23.93. Sydney Borick and Lee took fourth and fifth, respectively. Bell won more points for the Tritons in the 100 free as she took second with a time of 51.25. Bianca Fernandez joined her teammate to take third with a time of 51.75. Sydney Niles won the 200 back with a time of 1:59.32 to take nine more points with Danielle Greenwood taking third with a time of 2:05.74.
ON THE MEN’S SIDE
Nathan Lee, Adrian Bellido, Chad Morrison, and Lucas Brunett earned four points after taking second in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:28.81. Devin Esser swam a time of 15:55.81 for four points to take second place in the 1650 freestyle. In the 200 free, Hunter Cehelnik took second with a time of 1:37.59 with Aidan Rikic and Ryan Kirton following in third and fourth.
In the 100 back, Nathan Lee and Luigi Franco took first and second with times of 48.20 and 49.20, respectively. First year Aiden Griffith took first with a time of 55.11 in the 100 breast for another nine points. Bekzhan Yessengeldy joined his classmate taking third place with a time of 55.74. The Triton men swept the 200 fly taking first, second, and third with Jacob Cairns leading the way with a time of 1:49.41. Morrison posted a time of 1:51.15 for second and was followed by Charlie Franz in third with a time of 1:51.75.
The Triton men took first through fifth with Jacob Wang leading the way. The newcomer posted a time of 20.53; a second from the program record. Cehelnik followed in second with a time of 20.66 and Logan Lakis came in third with a time of 20.86. Brunett and Zach Elian took fourth and fifth. Kirton came in third in the 100 free with a time of 45.77.
Lee and Robby Griswold went first and second in the 200 back with times of 1:47.82 and 1:48.23.
UP NEXT
The Triton women will head across town to take on USD on Saturday, Feb. 1. The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m. on the San Diego campus.

LA JOLLA – California Baptist University men’s and women’s swim teams finished the 2024-25 regular season with one final dual in La Jolla on Saturday. The Tritons of UC San Diego made it a clean sweep of the Lancers, defeating the men 162-100 while the women fell by a score of 206.5 to 55.5.
CBU won eight of the 28 contested events on Saturday, with the men securing the bulk of those wins with six. The 200 medley relay team remained dominant as they’ve been for much of the season, with Remi Fabiani leading off for them and collecting a pair of individual wins. Tyler Manshiem, third leg of that winning relay team, earned one individual win on the day in the 100 butterfly. Reigning Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, Mark Kovacsics continued his winning ways, securing dominant wins in the 1,650 and 500 freestyle races. The women’s side earned two wins on Saturday as Sofia Maksimova touched first in her 50 free, while Naya Koc took the top spot in the 100 free race.
The Lancer dive team has one remaining regular season event left on the schedule, next weekend in Colorado Springs at the Air Force Diving Invitational. After that, the whole squad will take the majority of February to prep and prime for the WAC Championships in Edinburg, Texas, at the end of the month.
