Two more distance freestylers are added to NC State’s Class of 2020

Juniors James Plage and Nick Lawson will join the NC State Wolfpack in the fall of 2020. Both are distance freestylers; Aquabears’ Plage excels more at the 500 and 1650 yard freestyles of the two, while Virginia Gators’ Lawson is quicker in the 400 yard IM of the pair.

At the 2018 Speedo Winter Junior Championships East meet, Plage took 5^th place in the 1650 yard freestyle (15:14.52) and was the 1500 LCM freestyle champion at the 2018 USA Swimming Futures Championship meet in Richmond (15:54.20). At the 2019 Virginia 4A High School State Championship meet, Lawson was the 500-yard freestyle runner up (4:28.39) and took 5^th place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.22).

Best Times in Yards:

NC State won their 5^th consecutive ACC Championship in 2019 and while Plage and Lawson won’t be able to help the Wolfpack go for number six, they have a good shot at scoring as freshmen at the 2021 ACC Championship meet. Last season it took a 4:23.54 in the 500-yard freestyle, 3:51.02 in the 400 yard IM, and a 15:29.66 in the 1650 yard freestyle to qualify for a scoring final at the meet. They will join Denmark distance freestyler Alexander Aslak Norgaard as well as Alex Tomlinson, Austin Winchester, Conall Monahan, Luke Miller, and Michael Moore as members of the class of 2024 for NC State.
