Texas 6A Champ Ella Collins Joins the Virginia Bandwagon with Verbal to Class of 2023

Ella Collins, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Austin, Texas, has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Virginia for 2019-20, joining a class that already comprises Caroline Kulp, Ella Nelson, Jennifer Bell, Kate Douglass, Katie Cronin, Lexi Cuomo, Maddie Donohoe, and Charlotte Bowen.

Collins swims for Austin Swim Club and L.C. Anderson High School. She won the 100 free (49.76) and placed third in the 200 free (1:47.40) at the 2018 UIL Swimming & Diving 6A State Meet in February. In club swimming she focuses on the front end of the freestyle range as well as fly, back, and IM. Collins recently went best times in the 50 free, 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM at American Short Course Championships, making A finals in all four events. She was runner-up in the 50 free, 3rd in the 100 fly, 4th in the IM, and 8th in the 100 back.

Collins was a finalist last summer at 2017 Speedo Junior National Championships in the 100 free (20th) and contributed to ASC’s winning 400m free relay and runner-up 800m free relay. At Winter Juniors West she finished 11th in the 200 free and 15th in the 100 free, individually, and swam legs on the 3rd-place 400 free relay and 2nd-place 800 free relay.
