FHSAA 4A Record-holder Katie Cronin Verbally Commits to UVA for 2019-20

Gainesville, Florida sprinter Katie Cronin has added her name to the growing list of verbal commits to the University of Virginia class of 2024. Her future classmates will include: Ella Nelson, Kate Douglass, Lexi Cuomo, and Maddie Donohoe.

“I chose Virginia due to their unparalleled academics and the amazing coaching staff! I am so excited to get to train under Coach Todd in the sprint group. Grounds is beautiful, and I can’t wait to be a cavalier! WAHOOWA!”

Cronin is a junior at Florida’s Buchholz High School and swims year-round at Gator Swim Club in Gainesville. A member of the 3-time FHSAA Class 4A state champions girls team, Cronin is a 5-time FHSAA relay champion and a member of two record-breaking relays at the 2017 state meet. She anchored Buchholz’s medley relay (22.97) to the state title and 4A record, and swam the second leg (23.00) on the record-breaking 200 free relay. Individually she finished fourth in the 50 free (23.26) and fifth in the 100 free (51.09). As a sophomore she won the 4A state title in the 100 free.

Cronin is a 2016 Olympic trials qualifier in 50 free and was a member of two Gator Swim Club NAG relays: 11-12 200 free relay and 15-16 400 free relay. She placed 19th in the 50 free (23.08) at 2017 Winter Juniors East and led off GSC’s 3rd-place 200 free relay and 7th-place 400 free relay. She anchored the 7th-place 200 medley relay (22.90) and the 5th-place 400 medley relay (50.31), and swam a leg on the 10th-place 800 free relay.
