Stanford freshman True Sweetser broke a Pac-12 Meet Record that had stood for over a decade on Saturday night at the 2017 Men’s Pac-12 Championships in Federal Way, Washington.
The Stanford men, led in part by freshman Grant Shoults (pictured), took the Pac-12 team title tonight.
Ryan Murphy and the Cal Bears are closing the gap on Stanford
One of the top races to watch this morning will be the men’s 100 free, as USC’S Dylan Carter and ASU’s Cameron Craig will go head-to-head in heat 6.
Olympic gold medalist and World Record holder Ryan Murphy will take on the 100 back tonight.
Cal’s Andrew Seliskar will look to set up a sweep of the IM events, while teammates Ryan Murphy (100 back) and Justin Lynch (100 fly) seek their first individual titles of the meet.
In the 200 IM, Arizona State’s Cameron Craig made a big statement to take the top seed, but he’ll be challenged by Cal’s Ryan Murphy and Andrew Seliskar tonight.
USC’s defending champ Reed Malone will take on the 500 free this morning, but he’ll be up against a loaded Stanford distance group that includes Liam Egan, True Sweetser, and Grant Shoults.
Stanford is one of the best teams in the country this year, but they’ll be battling a tough Cal team that also ranks among the best of the best.
Shoults swam to a 4:18.40 to win the race, finishing 4 seconds ahead of fellow Stanford freshman True Sweetser (4:22.53).
The Stanford men kicked off 2017 with a home dual meet against the University of Pacific, picking up another victory to add to their winning season record.
Texas standout Madisyn Cox was on fire tonight, breaking Kathleen Hersey’s former school record in the 200 IM with a 1:52.83. That also makes her the 10th fastest performer of all time.
