STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook swimming and diving team earned its first team victories of the season on Saturday afternoon at University Pool, downing both LIU (168-116) and Sacred heart (158-140) in a tri-meet.

“Today our women showed a lot of spirit, grit and a will to win. I couldn’t be more proud of the way they came out from event one and didn’t stop until event 16 ended. We won as a team and I’m excited for what’s ahead for this group of women!”
HIGHLIGHTS
- Reagan MacDonald (Ottawa, Ontario), Michal Liberman (Rosh Haayin, Israel), Jessica Salmon (Rexford, N.Y.) and Maddy Enda (Chino Hills, Calif.) shined for the Seawolves, with the quartet laying claim to the team’s nine individual victories.
- MacDonald secured three victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.54), 200 backstroke (2:05.95) and 200 IM (2:11.87).
- Liberman got a pair of wins in the 100 backstroke (57.50) and 100 butterfly (57.42).
- Salmon swept the breaststrokes, winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.11 and the 200 in 2:25.88.
- Sara Chin (Long Beach, Calif.) wasn’t far behind Salmon in the 200 breaststroke, taking second in 2:28.14.
- Enda touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly (2:07.76) and 500 freestyle (5:16.64).
- Liberman, Salmon, Enda and Emma Waechter (Lewiston, N.Y.) also combined for a win in the 200 medley relay (1:48.76).
- On the diving boards, Stephanie Reiter (Howard Beach, N.Y.) paced the Seawolves on the 1-meter board, taking third with a score of 167.55.
- Valerie Reiter (Howard Beach, N.Y.) was fourth with a tally of 156.60 points.
- On the 3-meter, Valerie Reiter took third with a score of 185.60.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Long Island University women’s swimming team wrapped up the Stony Brook tri-meet Saturday afternoon, falling to both Stony Brook and NEC foe Sacred Heart. The Sharks lost to host Stony Brook, 168-116, and narrowly missed beating SHU, falling 152-142 due to the difference in diving.
The Sharks scored their first points of the meet in the 1000-yard freestyle, where freshman Reyna Iwamoto and sophomore Maja Uduc went 1-2. Iwamoto won the event in 10:50.52, while Uduc touched the wall in 11:05.30.
Junior Jeanne Touchette-McGowan came in third in the 200-yard freestyle, in 1:59.81, while junior Amanda Peren took second in the 100 back (59.02), and teammate Jacqueline Grabowski finished third (1:01.31). Freshman Tara Cabiling also had a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke, coming in at 1:09.33. Sophomore Amanda San Juan also had a top three finish for LIU, as she came in third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:13.38.
Peren also finished second in the 50 free (25.06) and the 200 back (2:11.96), while Iwamoto came in second in the 500 free (5:17.10), just ahead of San Juan, who came in third in 5:22.59. Touchette-McGowan and junior Kyleigh Barao went 2-3 in the 200 IM, with times of 2:12.74 and 2:14.85 respectively, to close out the individual events.
The Sharks capped the night with a second place finish in the 400 free relay, hitting the wall in 3:40.58 to cap the night’s scoring.
Up next, the Sharks will host perennial NEC powerhouse Saint Francis U. in LIU Pool for a dual meet rematch. LIU and SFU will face off Saturday, November 2 at 10:30 a.m.

TONY BROOK, N.Y.-The Sacred Heart University Swimming and Diving team completed its meet today as the Pioneers defeated LIU 152-142 and fell to host Stony Brook 158-140. The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 6 when the Pioneers face Providence and Rhode Island. The meet begins at 6:00 p.m.
Highlights
- Sophomore Megan McLaughlin had a career day as she broke the Pioneers school record in the 3 meter dive placing a score of 235.15. She also took first in the 1 meter dive with a score of 207.70 just six points ahead of fellow Pioneer Molly Martin to tallied a score of 201.45.
- Martin also took second in the 3 meter dive with a score of 223.30.
- In strokes senior Lauren Somers dominated the 50 and 100 freestyle placing times of 24.64 and 53.47 both season highs for the senior.
- Against LIU, Somers took first in the 200 meter freestyle placing a time of 1:57.34 which also placed second overall.
- In the relays, the Pioneers were able to emerge victorious over the Sharks as in the 400 meter freestyle relay the group of Nicole Tingley, Lauren Somers, Emily Peter and Kelly Bartnett took first with a time of 3:39.13 to push the Pioneers to the 152-142 victory over LIU.
- Also in the 400 meter freestyle relay to group of Grace Bergstrom, Ashley Ayala, Margaret Flaherty, and Taylor Eck took fourth with a time of 3:51.01.
