Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond swimming and diving program got to work Friday night, taking down Davidson 157-142 at day one of the Richmond Duals.
The Spiders took first in five events, with sophomore Abby Fuller touching first in the 50 free (23.56), followed by Lauren Medlin (24.03) and Caitlyn Hughes (24.30) to complete the sweep.
The 200 medley relay was all Spiders as Mattie Williams, Christina Levins, Claire O’Shaughnessy and Hughes clocked a 1:45.31 for first, while Caroline Weldon, Sara Greene, Fuller and Medlin took a close second with a 1:45.48.
Medlin (51.68) then took first and Hughes (52.94) followed for second in the 100 free.
Richmond took the first and second places when Hughes, Fuller, Medlin and Katelyn Pennell swam a 3:30.65 for first and O’Shaughnessy, Megan Carson, Katie Chignell and Lucy Yeomans swam a 3:32.45 for third in the 400 free relay.
Spiders went 1-2 when Katelyn Pennell swam a 2:04.39 for first in the 200 back and Weldon finished in second with a 2:04.88. the Spiders went 1-2 in in the 100 back with a 57.40 showing by Williams and a 58.00 by Weldon.
Lola Dragosavac won the 1m diving contest with a score of 242.30 and Zazi Halla finished third with a 232.65. Dragosavac finished third on the 3m board with a 236.15.
Natalie Stuart finished second in the 1,650 free with a 17:27.11.
O’Shaughnessy took second with a 56.83 and Abby Fuller finished third with a 58.25 in the 100 fly.
Levins placed third in the 100 breast with a 1:06.25. She followed that performance with another third-place finish in the 200 breast when she swam a 2:25.28.
Alexa Connors finished second and Megan Carson finished third in the 500 free with a 5:05.53 and 5:05.75 clocking, respectfully, and Chignell took third with a 1:53.57 in the 200 free.
The Spiders are back at it for day two tomorrow when they take on Duquesne.

Richmond, Va.— The University of Richmond swimming and diving program completed the weekend sweep at the Richmond Duals when it passed Duquesne, 152-145, Saturday.
Natalie Stuart got things started when she won the 1650 free with a time of 17:36.53 and Megan Carson followed with a 17:50.70 for third.
Richmond took second and third in the 400 medley relay with Mattie Williams, Christina Levins, Claire O’Shaughnessy and Lauren Medlin taking second with a 3:52.51 and the relay of Caroline Weldon, Sara Greene, Abby Fuller and Lucy Yeomans swam a 3:56.97.
The Spiders swept the 200 free with Caitlyn Hughes finishing first with a 1:53.69, followed by Katie Chignell (1:54.29) and Alexa Connors (1:55.43) for second and third, respectfully.
Katelyn Pennell secured a third place finish in the 100 back when she swam a 57.62 and Weldon took third with a 2:05.14 posting in the 200 back.
Richmond took the top two spots in the 200 fly when O’Shaughnessy touched at 2:07.90 and Emma Martin followed with a 2:12.40. Martin also took second in the 200 breast with a 2:23.27.
Fuller took first in the 50 free with a 23.75, and Medlin took third with a 23.99. Medlin then won the 100 free with a 51.74 and Hughes finished with a 52.85 for third. Fuller (57.51) swam a 57.51 to win the 100 fly, and O’Shaughnessy finished second with a 57.91.
Connors touched at 5:08.75 for second and Chignell clocked a 5:11.76 for third in the 500 free, and Laura Davis clocked a 4:35.35 for second in the 400 IM.
Richmond took first and third in the 200 free relay with a 1:35.82 from Fuller, Hughes, Yeomans and Medlin and a 1:38.36 from Julia Krichev, Chignell, Pennell and O’Shaughnessy.
Zazi Halla took third in both events, picking up 258.70 points on the one-meter boardf and 241.70 on the three.
The Spiders are back at it Nov. 4-5 when they visit Queens University to face Marshall, Vanderbilt and Queens.
George Mason vs Davidson College Recap
RICHMOND, Va. – The George Mason men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition at the Richmond Duals on Saturday.
The men’s team won its two-day dual against Davidson, 205.5-166.5, and the Mason women’s team posted a 160.5-138.5 victory over the Wildcats on Saturday.
On the women’s side, the Patriots won eight events against the Wildcats on the way to the victory.
Graduate student Madison Nalls won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.05), with sophomore Emma DeJong third (1:56.81).
In the 500-yard freestyle, Nalls notched a second-place finish (5:10.58) and freshman Gracie Sweeney was fourth (5:17.40).
Graduate student Jacquee Clabeaux took the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.37), while freshman Ainsley Toews just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish (1:08.16).
The Patriots went one-two in the 100-yard backstroke with sophomore Ali Tyler touching the wall first (55.97) and classmate Anka Whelan second (57.19). Tyler also won the 100-yard freestyle (52.63), with DeJong third in the event (52.85).
Whelan swam to a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke by nearly seven seconds (2:02.80) and also won the 400-yard IM by just under four seconds (4:30.53).
Junior Abigail Murtaugh won the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.33).
The Patriots swept the relay events against the Wildcats.
The team of freshman Peyton Brehmer, along with Clabeaux, Murtaugh and Whelan won the 400-yard medley relay (3:51.60). The group of sophomores Emma Burke and Shannon Judge, along with freshman Angelina Zeidan and Toews placed fourth in the event (3:59.46).
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the combination of Tyler, Brehmer, Judge and Clabeaux claimed the victory (1:34.72). Senior Emily Lewantowicz, DeJong, Nalls and Zeidan united to take third (1:37.69).
On the men’s side, the Patriots won four events on the final day of their dual against Davidson.
Freshman Tate Anderson won both the 50-yard backstroke (23.73) and 100-yard backstroke (50.37). Sophomore Alexander Franklin placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (51.20).
Senior Sammy Lucht took the top spot in the 50-yard breaststroke (26.29), while sophomore Tyler Lentine placed fourth (26.65) and sophomore Justin Lee was fifth (27.24). Lentine claimed the 100-yard breaststroke (57.93), while Lucht was third in the event (58.56).
Freshman Aoun Al-Hiari placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (50.53).
The Patriots took three of the top four spots in the 50-yard butterfly, with senior Josh Fletcher second (23.01), junior Anthony Nguyen third (23.04) and sophomore Logan Skiles fourth (23.08).
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the combination of sophomore Zane Roberts, freshman Joshua Hochard, Anderson and Fletcher won the event (1:23.25). Freshman Danny Schwabauer, Skiles, Nguyen and Al-Hiari placed third (1:25.05).
In the 400-yard medley relay, the team of Franklin, Lentine, Fletcher and Roberts placed second (3:25.26), while freshman Jett Lee, Lucht, Al-Hiari and Nguyen finished third (3:25.60).
The Patriots are back in action when they compete in the A-10 Classic Oct. 29-20 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
