EVANSVILLE, Ind.– University of Southern Indiana Women’s Swimming and Diving shined in the home finale on Saturday, earning a dominant win over Summit League foe Eastern Illinois University,196-96. The Eagles won 12 of the 16 events and improved by 47 points from the 2024 matchup between the two programs.
Freshman diver Anna Bunnell shined again, breaking the USI three-meter record with an impressive 241.40 pts, earning her first place. The freshman continues to be a model of consistency, setting the tone at the beginning of the meet for the Screaming Eagles. Fellow freshman Gabbie Meier set a personal best three-meter diving score of 232.58 pts in her second-place performance.
A fantastic January continued for sophomore Reagan Holmes, winning both her solo events in the 100 freestyle (53.26) and 200 freestyle (1:56.73). Freshman Emma Gabhart excelled in a personal new event, taking first place in the 1000 freestyle (11:17.21). The freshman turned around in the100 breaststroke (1:08.15), taking first place and showing immense versatility competing short and long distance.
Junior Mattilynn Smith secured a personal best 200 freestyle (1:57.73) in a second-place effort, along with a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:14.60), and concluding with a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:01.56). Smith is another Eagle who provides versatility for the squad.
The Eagles depth was in full force, snatching victories in both relay events. The stellar team of freshman Elizabeth Ketcham, sophomore Naomi Weaver, Gabhart, and Holmes came out with the 200 medley relay (1:49.43). The 200 freestyle relay (1:39.46) saw a dominating performance by sophomore Caiya Cooper, sophomore Hayden Shurtz, Holmes, and Ketcham to conclude the meet with a statement.

USI will return to the water on February 8 for a diving-only meet hosted by the University of Illinois-Chicago. The full team will be back in action at The Summit League Championships on February 19-22 in Iowa City, Iowa.
EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Men’s Swimming and Diving dropped a tightly contested battle against Summit League rival, Eastern Illinois University in the home finale, 164.5-129.5.
The loss marks the Screaming Eagles first head-to-head meet against the Panthers as the series moves to 2-1. However, USI will have another opportunity to outperform the Panthers at the Summit League Championships on February 19-22.
Sophomore Nathan Deputy highlighted the Eagles day on the three-meter diving board as he continues to improve meet by meet. The Evansville native broke into the 300’s for the first time in his career with a monstrous score of 304.20 points. The mark reset his own school record, along with setting a new pool record. As of today, Deputy’s score ranks him in third among Summit League divers.
The Eagles finished strong winning the final two events, but struggled earning event victories with only four total. Freshman Justin Knauf (52.39) and sophomore Joey Smith (52.44) finished second and third in the 100 butterfly. Freshman Jude Winnington impressed in the 50 freestyle (21.65), dropping 0.73 seconds for a second place finish.
Winnington continued to spark the Eagles with a blistering 100 IM (52.98) victory. The freshman finished the day contributing two first place finishes and two second places. The Eagles finished their final home meet strong with a 200 freestyle relay (1:26.79) victory featuring junior Gabriel Groves, sophomore Sam Smith, Joey Smith, and Winnington.

Saturday’s meet marked the regular season finale for swimmers as they shift focus to the Summit League Championships on February 19-22. The diving squad makes another trip to University of Illinois-Chicago, competing against the Flames in a diving only competition on February 8.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s swim teams traveled to Evansville on Saturday to dual with Summit League foe Southern Indiana. It was a successful day for the Panthers, with the men earning an impressive victory and Corinne Staneart setting a new school record.
Down 32-0 after walking in the door with no dive team, the men won every swim event except the 100 IM to battle their way back for the 164.5-129.5 win.
The 200 medley relay team of Andrew Herman, Nolan Wallace, Sebastian Rosales, and Dismas Dillon got things started with a first-place time of 1:34.5 in the afternoon’s opening event.
Rosales and Wallace would add two more top finishes to their days with Rosales winning the 100 fly (52.17) and 50 fly (23.21), while Wallace took the 50 breast (26.37) and 100 breast (58.89).
Meanwhile, Dillon also added a pair of top finishes as he prevailed in the 50 free (21.27) and 100 free (46.83).
Eddie Myers had a big day as well, taking home three individual golds with victories in the 1,000 free (9:54.74), 50 back (24.88), and 500 free (4:46.88).
Conner Colston also earned a first-place finish with a time of 1:44.27 in the 200 free.
On the women’s side, the Panthers raced well in the top spot, but fell short 96-196.
Corinne Staneart stole the show with a school record time of 57.70 in the 100 IM. She also took gold in the 50 fly with a time of 25.55.
Izzy Glasgow and Autumn Grinter also posted first-place finishes, with Glasgow winning the 50 back (28.11) and Grinter taking the 50 free (24.61).
Eastern will return to southwest Indiana next week to take part in the Evansville Invite. Action is set to get underway at 1 p.m. at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville.
