Six Emory & Henry Student-Athletes Named To 2014-15 VaSID Academic All-State Team

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Six student-athletes from Emory & Henry College have been named to the 2014-15 VaSID Academic All-State Team, VaSID officials announced Tuesday. VaSID is the professional organization of the Virginia Sports Information Directors. This year, the team honors 223 student-athletes from 38 institutions for their academic performance during the 2014-15 academic year.

E&H’s selections were sophomore Alex Cooper (Christiansburg, Va.) of men’s cross country, senior Jen Dininger (Lawrenceville, Ga.) of equestrian, sophomore men’s tennis player John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.), sophomore swimmer Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.), senior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) of women’s basketball and sophomore Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.) of women’s swimming.

“These six student-athletes have set themselves apart with their commitment to excellence both athletically and in the classroom,” said Director of Sports Information Joe Matthews. “I am proud to be a member of an organization like VaSID which is devoted to recognizing the hard work and dedication of student-athletes across the Commonwealth. It is fitting as members of the higher education community to also honor our student-athletes for their academic success in addition to their athletic accomplishments.”

Each school is given six spots on the team for deserving student-athletes. Team members must be at least a sophomore and carry a minimum 3.25 grade point average to receive the honor. All four-year colleges in Virginia are eligible to be included.

The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects Academic All-State teams across all sports in addition to All-State teams in two divisions (University and College) for 12 sports and three single-division teams.
