As expected based on their impressive prelim and semifinal swims, both Kevin Cordes and Cody Miller touched the wall ahead of the rest of the field in order to secure their spot on the American Olympic team.
Out first at the wall, Cordes turned in 27.49 with Andrew Wilson, Marcus Titus, and Cody Miller hot on his heels. As he advanced forward to the 75, he began to separate himself from them as did Miller.
With 10 meters to go, Miller creeped right up on Cordes’ shoulder, but didn’t have enough to overtake him as Cordes clocked in at 59.18 to Miller’s 59.26.
Josh Prenot passed both Wilson and Titus in order to claim the third spot. Michael Andrew was fourth in a new national age group record time of 59.81.
- Kevin Cordes (59.18)
- Cody Miller (59.26)
- Josh Prenot (59.81)
- Michael Andrew (59.82)

Sergio said “I think” which means he does not know.
I wonder if he can beat Van der Burgh in rio, that guy has been awfully quiet.. Peaty is a heavy favorite, but Cordes will definitely drop some more time. He will at least get a bronze medal, but anything could happen in an olympic final. If someone has a bad day, Cordes could sneak in for the gold in my eyes.
Cam VDB may not have Peaty’s speed but he is tough as nails. It’s difficult to beat VDB as we can see in the past 4 years.
He might have more speed than Peaty actually. Usually VDBs problems come in the last 15meters where he looks like someone tied a house to his waist. If I had to guess VDB will turn first at the 50 by at least half a second with Peaty and Cordes trying to chase him down the second 50.
I don’t think he has more speed than Peaty.
Peaty has worse start than VDB, and yet Peaty holds 50 breast WR. if that doesn’t show Peaty has more speed, I don’t know what is.
And Cordes still has that chronic problem: he tightens up towards the finish.
Even on a average day Peaty is still nabbing Gold the guy drops a 58 low-mid consistently on a great day he’s breaking the World record again Cordes certainly has his hand on a bronze could sneak a silver if CVDB isn’t up to his best levels ..plus I can’t rule out Murdoch either
So after all this stuff that has been written – it’s amazing how positive Americans are all of a sudden. Things are apparently great in Rio.
all of a sudden ? where did u catch that ?
