21-year-old Russian sprinter Vladislav Demichev has been given a 2-year suspension for an anti-doping rules violation. The suspension officially began on November 29, 2022, with credit for a period of provisional suspension served.
While Demichev never made any international appearances for Russia, he was a promising sprint prospect as a junior. In 2020, the year he turned 18, he had best times of 23.67 and 52.67 in the 50 and 100 meter freestyles in long course.
RUSADA currently lists 5 suspended pool swimmers who are suspended by the domestic anti-doping organization, plus an additional 4 that were suspended by World Aquatics.
WADA, the global anti-doping watchdog, said earlier this month that the Russian Anti-Doping Agency was still not compliant with its rules.
Demichev is not currently listed on RUSADA’s list of banned athletes, though they did publish a brief news release about the sanction. The substance that he tested positive for was not included in that new release.
Demichev’s last meet was the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships and Solidarity Games, where he finished 80th in prelims of the 50 free.
“Doping” and “Russia” always seem to appear in the same sentence.
Wait, they have rules? This smells a little like a fabricated action to prove that they are serious. Demichev is Russian for “fall guy.”
Yeah. 100%.
Darn you actually might be right does this dude exist? That’s a bit on the nose…
