Princeton Sweeps Cornell, Penn In Tri-Meet; Big Red Men Top Quakers For First Time In 10 Years

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The Princeton women’s swimming and diving team competed in a tri-meet with Penn and Cornell in Drexel Pool in Philadelphia on Saturday, taking first place in 11 events. Princeton beat Penn 176-124, and Cornell 219-81.

The Tiger squad of Alexa PappasDakota TuckerSabrina Johnston and Ella Noble won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.42.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Jenna WaltersVeronique RossouwHeidi Smithwick and Johnston took first with a time of 3:19.86.

Jenna Walters won the 200 freestyle, swimming 1:48.64. Natalie Farquhar took second in the event, clocking in at 1:48.74. Farquhar also took second in the 500 freestyle, swimming a time of 4:51.35.

Isabella Korbly swam the 100 backstroke in 54.76 for first place. Pappas took third in the event, swimming a time of 55.29.

Eleanor Sun took first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.82. Sun also took first in the 200 backstroke, clocking in at 1:57.23, and the 200 IM, with a time of 1:58.34.

Heidi Smithwick won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.54.

In the 50 freestyle, Johnston, Noble and Veronique Roussouw took second, third and fourth place respectively.

Charlotte Martinkus swept the 1m and 3m dives, her fifth sweep of the two events this season.

Dakota Tucker took first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.28.

Johnston, Smiwthwick and Edie Simecek took second, third and fourth in the 100 butterfly.

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The Princeton men’s swimming and diving team competed in a tri-meet with Penn and Cornell on Saturday at Drexel Pool, defeating Penn 177-122 and Cornell 163-137.

Aidan Wang swept the 1m and 3m dives, his fourth sweep of the events this season as he continues an undefeated streak.

The Tiger squad of Tyler HongPatrick DinuLogan Noguchi and Brett Feyerick took first place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:26.74.

The Tigers also took first in the 400 freestyle relay, with Hong, Dinu, Feyerick and Michael Schott swimming 2:53.95.

In the 1000 freestyle, Schott swam a time of 8:55.69 for first place, out-swimming the other runners by nearly 10 seconds. He also took second in the 100 butterfly, with a mark of 47.15.

Parker Lenoce took second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:37.25, while Noguchi took second in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 49.60.

Hong won the 200 butterfly and the 200 backstroke, swimming times of 1:43.91 and 1:43.48 respectively.

Dinu won the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 43.77. He also took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.36.

Andrew Zou took third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.35.

The Tigers will return home to DeNunzio Pool for the annual Big Al Invitational on December 6th through 8th. Princeton will also compete in the USA Diving Winter Nationals on Dec. 2-11.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Cornell swimming and diving team fell to the Princeton Tigers and Pennsylvania Quakers in a dual-meet held at Drexel Pool. The Tigers defeated the Big Red 219-81, and the Quakers outscored Cornell 217-83.

The Big Red earned top-three overall finishes in four events this weekend. In the 200 Medley Relay, a squad of Minga Xu, Quinn Rinkus, Tori Xhang, and Kate Li earned third-place with a time of 1:42.84. Li also claimed a third-place result in the 100 yard freestyle with her 24.92-second finish. Hojung Yoon was third in the 200 yard backstroke, clinching a 2:00.49 seed-time, followed up by a 1:58.54 finals-time. Morgan Ogate collected 275.90 points in the three-meter dive to grab a second-place result.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Cornell men’s swimming and diving team defeated the Pennsylvania Quakers for the first time in 10 years, and fell to the Princeton Tigers this weekend at Drexel Pool. The Big Red defeated Penn 158-142. Princeton downed Cornell 163-137.

The Big Red earned 12 top-three overall finishers on the weekend. Pietro Ubertalli claimed first-place in the 200 yard freestyle with his finish of 1:37.03. Blake Conway earned the top-spot in the 100 yard backstroke (48.01 seconds). Joesph Gurski swam in 47.05 seconds to take first in the 100 yard butterfly.

Ubertalli, Sebastian Wolff, Gurski, and Josh Toothman teamed up in the 200 medley relay, racing to a time of 1:28.23 to clinch a second-place result. Julian Correa was the runner-up in the 1000 freestyle (9:05.32). Gurski notched a second-place completion in the 200 butterfly (1:44.74). Domenic Edwards was second-overall in the 100 yard freestyle, earning a 44.74-second time. Ubertalli owned the second-best 200 yard backstroke (1:43.95). In the 500 yard freestyle, Alex Miao ranked second (4:28.00). Ubertalli, Will Taner, Edwards, and Miao produced the second best time in the 400 freestyle relay (2:58.35).

Miao (200 freestyle – 1:37.39), Toothman (50 freestyle – 20.44 seconds), Soodong Kim (1 meter dive – 285.45 points), Blake Conway (200 backstroke – 1:46.99), and a 400 fyard freestyle relay group of Gurski, Toothman, Grove, and Daniel Simoes (3:00.13), claimed third-place results overall in their respective events.

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s swimming and diving team celebrated its seniors and competed for a split against Cornell and Princeton Saturday afternoon at Drexel Pool.

The Quakers (6-2, 2-2 Ivy) fell to the Tigers, 176-124, but defeated the Big Red, 217-83.

Kayla Fu recorded three event wins for the second straight meet, while Anna Moehn tallied Penn’s other two wins in distance races.

*Fu continues her strong start to her rookie campaign with victories in the 50 freestyle (22.70), 100 free (49.17), and 100 butterfly (53.29). She was a tenth from re-setting the school record in the 100 fly after breaking the mark last weekend.

*Moehn began her afternoon with a win in the 1,000 free (9:42.21). Sydney Bergstrom took second (9:50.64) with Anna Boeckman in third (10:05.60). Moehn also won the 500 free with a time of 4:46.19. Bergstrom swam a 4:53.75 to finish third.

*Kate Levensten swam a time of 55.04 in the 100 backstroke to take second place.

*Joy Jiang took second in the 200 fly (2:01.48).

*Katya Eruslanova had a second-place finish in the 200 back (1:57.40), a third-place finish in the 200 free (55.04), and also took third in the 200 IM (2:02.53).

*Izzy Pytel was the pied piper in a 2-3-4-5 finish for the 100 breaststroke, clocking a 1:09.20 to finish second. Kate Handley took third (1:03.40), Meredith Holcomb in fourth (1:04.76) and Abby Druhan fifth (1:05.05).

*It was another 2-3-4-5 finish for the Quakers in the 200 breast, this time with Holcomb coming in second place (2:17.23). Druhan tied for second with a 2:17.23, Pytel in fourth (2:17.24) and Handley in fifth (2:17.96).

*On the diving board, Rachel Yang racked up a pair of third-place finishes in both the one-meter (278.30) and three-meter (274.25) dives.

*The 200-medley relay team of Amy Qin, Handley, Maggie Hu, and Fu placed second with a time of 1:41.44.

*Amber Smith, Eruslanova, Moehn, and Qin took third place in the 400 free relay, timing in at 3:25.55.

*The Quakers honored nine women—Brooke BlomVanessa ChongAmelia GirottoJoy JiangJillian JohnsonKeara McGowanMadeleine Parker, and Izzy Pytel—before the meet began with a special ceremony.

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s swimming and diving team honored its seniors and competed hard against Princeton and Cornell Saturday afternoon at Drexel Pool.

Senior Matt Fallon paced the Quakers with three first-place finishes, while Liam Campbell and James Curreri had one each.

*Fallon once again dominated in his final meet in Philadelphia, earning wins in the 100 breaststroke (52.84), 200 breast (1:54.89), and 200 IM (1:49.15).

*In the 100 breast, Watson Nguyen finished second (54.36) and Colin Zhang placed third (54.37). Zhang also took second in the 200 breast with a time of 1:58.11. Fallon led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM as well, as Peter Whittington placed second at 1:49.62 and Zhang took third at 1:51.01.

*Campbell placed first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.29.

*Curreri earned a win in the 500 free (4:25.95).

*Jeffrey Hou took a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 backstroke (49.68) and 100 butterfly (48.42).

*Max Malakhovets clocked a 1:46.32 in the 200 fly to finish third.

*On the diving board, Cody Hopkins solidified a pair of second-place finishes in both the one-meter (285.80) and three-meter (327.15) dives.

*The 200-medley relay team of Hou, Nguyen, Alex Fu, and Campbell times in at 1:28.88 to take third place.
