Katie Rauch Commits to North Carolina, Will Join Her Brother Jacob

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

North Carolina 4A State Runner-Up Katie Rauch has verbally committed to the University of North Carolina as part of its class of 2021. She is already the 3rd verbal committment for the Tar Heels in the class, as the program builds momentum under first year head coach Mark Gangloff. She will join her brother Jacob, who is currently a sophomore on the men’s team at UNC.

As a sophomore last season, Rauch, swimming for South Mecklenburg High School, Rauch finished 2nd in the 200 free (1:48.59) and the 500 free (4:48.95) at the North Carolina 4A* High School State Championship meet.

*Note: in North Carolina, Class 4A includes the state’s biggest high schools. South Mecklenberg High School is one of the state’s 2 or 3 biggest, depending on the year.

Rauch is an Olympic Trials qualifier in the 200 back, having been 2:13.67 in long course. The backstroke races and middle-distance freestyles are her bests to date. Last season, even as a sophomore in high school, Rauch would have been UNC’s fastest 500 freestyler, and would have ranked 2nd in the 200 back (albeit a very young backstroke group).

She also would have been their fastest 1000 freestyler, though she hasn’t swum the mile often enough to put up a similarly-significant time there.

Rauch’s Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 23.87
  • 100 free – 51.46
  • 200 free – 1:48.59
  • 500 free – 4:45.21
  • 1000 free – 9:53.17
  • 100 back – 56.46
  • 200 back – 1:58.75
  • 100 fly – 57.40
  • 200 fly – 2:05.95
  • 200 IM – 2:03.73
  • 400 IM – 4:22.95

Rauch joins South African twin sisters Georgia and Olivia Nel in the class of 2021 for UNC.

Rauch trains with the Aquatic Team of Mecklenburg, or ATOM, for her club swimming.
