Kathleen Baker Replaces Sarah Denninghoff on Duel in the Pool Roster

SwimMAC Carolina’s Kathleen Baker has replaced Texas senior Sarah Denninghoff on the American roster for the 2013 Duel in the Pool.

The meet will take place on December 20th and 21st in Glasgow, Scotland, and will feature a lineup of the all-star Americans versus all-star Europeans.

Baker, like Denninghoff, is a very good backstroker; she’s been 52.52/1:54.30 in yards, plus 1:00.6 and 2:10.2 in long course. She should be very good in SCM, even though she’s never raced it officially.

The backstroke group should be a very good one for the Americans, even without the Cal girls. It includes Baker, Olivia Smoliga, perhaps Megan Romano, and Kendyl Stewart. They’ll need to be good, though, when they match up against Daryna Zevina, one of the world’s top SCM backstrokers, and the young Brit Lauren Quigley.

Denninghoff has not raced yet this year during the college season for the Texas Longhorns, but had a spectacular summer.

Romano is currently ranked 12th in the world (LCM) according to Fina which is ahead of Bootsma and only .10 behind Denninghoff….sounds like a backstroker to me.

Of course without the Cal girls, the women’s US backstroke is much weaker but there’s still Miss Smoliga, the reigning SCM 100 back world champion.
Miss Romano is a freestyler!
Miss Stewart is a butterflyer!
Great for Miss Baker to swim there!
It will be a great experience for the youngster.
