Israeli Breaststroker Kristian Pitshugin Makes Verbal Commitment to Georgia

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Kristian Pitshugin has announced his intention to join the University of Georgia men’s swimming and diving team mid-season in the 2022-23 school year. He wrote on social media:

“After those weird and crazy past two years which made me bring out the best of myself in even harsher conditions, I’m super excited and happy to announce my commitment to the University of Georgia(UGA) for the class of 2022 to continue my academic and athletic career as a student-athlete. I’m glad for the opportunity I’ve got to be a part of the Bulldogs and I can’t wait to compete as one and see what the future holds for us! I want to thank my current coach Mano May, Coach Neil- who helped me a lot through the process and everybody else who was part of my career and helped me to get to this point! o Dawgs!🐶🐶🐶”

Pitshugin graduated high school in 2019 and is currently doing his military service in the Israeli army. He swims for the Greater Jerusalem Swimming Club and specializes in breaststroke. He told SwimSwam:

“I chose UGA because of some reasons as coaches, rankings, teammates and their interest and concern at me. All of these things worked out perfectly for me. I’m very motivated and waiting to arrive and start training and competing in such a good team, conditions and atmosphere while taking a step forward in my academic life. There are a lot of Israelis who were there in the past and even more who are still there today, they told me a lot of stories and experiences that made me want this transition even more.”

Pitshugin is Israel’s second-fastest 50/100 breaststroker this year and he ranks third in the 200 breast. He earned lifetime bests in all three events this summer, both in Israel (50/100 breast) and outside (200 breast at Sette Coli).

Best LCM times (converted):

  • 50 breast – 27.07 (23.48)
  • 100 breast – 1:00.92 (53.08)
  • 200 breast – 2:16.34 (1:59.22)

Pitshugin’s best time in the 100 breast (converted to SCY) would have scored for Georgia in the B final at 2021 SEC Championships, and his 50 time would have been an asset to the 200 medley relay. He will begin his experience in Athens with fellow class of 2026 commits Charlie Stout, Cooper Cook, Matt Sates, and Sam Kohm.
