Isabel Gose Lowers Own German Record In 400 Free In Paris

2024 PARIS SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES

The women’s 400m free was touted as one of the most high-profile races of these Olympics, as the current world record holder Ariarne Titmus of Australia and former world record holders Summer McIntosh of Canada and Katie Ledecky of the United States were all among the field.

When the dust settled, Titmus successfully defended her gold in a time of 3:57.49 while McIntosh snagged silver in 3:58.37 and Ledecky earned bronze in 4:00.86.

Further down the line in 5th place, however, was 22-year-old Isabel Gose of Germany. Gose stopped the clock at 4:02.14 for a strong showing in her first Olympic final, registering a new national record in the process.

Her outing this evening in Paris shaved .25 off the 4:02.39 she turned in for bronze at this year’s World Championships.

Gose’s New 4:02.14 German Record Gose’s Old 4:02.39 German Record
58.17 58.87
1:01.02 1:01.34
1:01.56 1:01.89
1:01.39 1:00.29

Gose was much quicker on the front half of tonight’s race than in Doha but she paid for it on the final 100m where she was over a second slower than her earlier mark.

We’ll see her compete in both the 800m and 1500m free events later this week.
