TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State took 13 of the 16 events on Friday night at the Vigo County Aquatic Center as the Sycamores downed Eastern Michigan in dual meet action, 204-96.
Claire Parsons (500- and 1000-Free) and Chloe Farro (50- and 100-Free) both won two events apiece as the Sycamores improved to 6-0 in competition on Friday evening in their second home event of the season. Alexa Szadorski, Peyton Heagy, Haley Halsall, Olivia DiRuzza, Dorotea Bukvic, Kaleigh Kelley, and Alexandria Cotter all took home individual wins on the evening as ISU took wins in the first three events to seize control of the meet early.
ISU opened the evening with the win in the 200-yard Medley Relay as the team of Cotter, Ali Pearson, Kelley, and Farro finished first overall with a time of 1:44.00 to take the event by 1.38. The quartet of Kalli Agapios, Kaimi Matsumoto, Raine Boles, and Szadorski finished third with a time of 1:46.12, while Trista Bullock, Bukvic, Raz Harel, and Allie Barasch touched sixth in 1:49.02. The final group of DiRuzza, Makayla Sura, Becca Shaffer, and Ash Saple finished seventh in 1:51.21.
ISU took the top three spots in the 1000-yard Freestyle event with both Claire and Rose Parsons taking the top two positions, while Esther Rydbeck Norden was third in the field. Claire Parsons touched in 10:14.85, while Rose was second in 10:30.39. Rydbeck Norden finished third in 10:34.44.
The Sycamores took four of the top five spots in the 200-yard freestyle paced by Heagy’s time of 1:52.95. Erin Cummins was second in 1:54.24, while Jordan Gruce finished fourth in 1:57.15. Bullock was fifth in 1:58.86, while Kamila Nowak was seventh in 1:59.56.
DiRuzza finished just off the pace in the 100-yard Backstroke as the junior touched the wall in 57.55 to place second overall. Agapios was fourth in 58.45, while Kate Reeves finished sixth in 59.40.
Szadorski, Matsumoto, and Pearson took the top three positions in the 100-yard Breaststroke event. Szadorski was first in 1:04.72, while Matsumoto finished .08 behind her teammate in 1:04.72. Pearson finished third in 1:04.97. Bukvic (1:07.91, 7th) and Sura (1:12.13, 10th) both posted top-10 finishes in the event.
Halsall and Cotter were first and second in the 200-yard Butterfly with Halsall taking the event win in 2:05.85. Cotter touched the wall behind her teammate in second in 2:06.73, while Harel touched fourth in 2:08.91. Shaffer was the final Sycamore in the event in 2:12.98.
The Sycamores posted three of the top four times in the 50-yard Freestyle led by Farro’s top finish of 23.65. Kelley finished second in 24.14, while Barasch was fourth in 24.51. Boles (24.76) and Saple (25.18) finished seventh and 10th respectively.
Bailey Betzer was ISU’s top finisher in the 3M diving event as the senior finished with a score of 267.75. Zoe Smith was fifth in 265.65, while Daniela Orta Castaneda was eighth in 232.35. Sierra Bowman (217.65) and Brenna Woodruff finished ninth and 11th.
Farro, Heagy, Szadorski, and Barasch finished in the top-five in the 100-yard Freestyle. Farro won the event by nearly a full second with a time of 51.20, while Heagy was third in 53.09. Szadorski took fourth in 53.19, while Barasch touched the wall fifth overall in 53.23. Gruce (54.77) and Saple (54.38) rounded out the Sycamores in the field.
DiRuzza took home the win in the 200-yard Backstroke as the junior touched the wall first in 2:03.72. Reeves was third in the field in 2:07.36, whiel Agapios (2:08.84) and Bullock (2:14.84) finished fifth and sixth.
Bukvic was the overall winner in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:21.05, while Pearson finished third in 2:22.47. Matsumoto (2:23.25, 4th) and Szadorski (2:27.36) both recorded top-five finishes, while Sura took ninth overall in 2:34.86.
Claire Parsons won the 500-yard Freestyle event by nearly three seconds as the freshman touched the wall in 5:02.41. Halsall was second in 5:05.19, while Cummins (5:05.79) and Rose Parsons (5:11.80) finished third and fourth respectively. Nowak rounded out the ISU athletes in the field with a time of 5:19.48.
Kelley was ISU’s top finisher in the 100-yard Fly as the freshman touched the wall in 55.74. Boles was second in 57.38, while Harel was sixth in 58.17. Shaffer added an eighth-place result with a time of 1:00.40.
Cotter, Bukvic, and Szadorski took the top three positions in the 400-yard IM. Cotter was first in the field in 4:27.51, while Bukvic was second with a time of 4:29.01. Szadorski rounded out the top three in 4:34.56. Rydbeck Norden added a sixth-place finish in 4:43.78.
Smith was third overall in the field in the 1M diving event with a score of 265.88. Betzer (251.40) was seventh overall, while Orta Castaneda was eighth with a score of 237.53. Bowman finished 10th in 198.15 and Woodruff rounded out the group 11th with 166.43.
The Sycamores closed out the meet taking the top two positions in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay. Heagy, Matsumoto, Barasch, and Farro took the top spot with a time of 3:28.61, while Kelley, Pearson, Cummins, and Agapios finished second in 3:31.61. The final two groups of Claire Parsons, Gruce, Boles, and Saple finished fifth in 3:38.40, while Reeves, DiRuzza, Bullock, and Nowak placed sixth in 3:43.38.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University swim and dive team was defeated by the Indiana State University Sycamores, 204-96, Nov. 3, inside Vigo County Aquatic Center in Terre Haute, Ind. The Eagles were led by their divers as they captured wins in both the one and three meter dive.
Eastern Michigan’s first event win of the evening came via the 100 yard backstroke where Siporah Sang (London, Ontario/Sir Frederick Banting Secondary) finished first in 56.60, followed by Kiersten Russell (Clinton, Mich./Saline High School) in third, swimming the distance in 57.62, marking a career-fastest for the junior.
Lucy Noble (Flagler Beach Fla./Flagler Palm Coast) rounded out EMU’s finishers in the 100 back, as she placed fifth in 58.60. Overall, the Eagles secured 14 points in the event.
The Eagles next claimed victory in the one meter dive, securing the number one and two spots as Keira Veltigian (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) took first with 272.25 points, trailed by Rebekah Knapp (Mesa, Ariz./Skyline), scoring 267.75 points. Eastern’s scoring in the event was capped by Camryn Hughes (London, Ontario/Sir Frederick Banting Secondary), who put up 264.23.
EMU also took the three meter dive with Veltigian again claiming the top spot, this time posting 295.88 points. She would be followed by Knapp in second with 288.45 and Hughes in third, notching 278.33.
After securing her spot at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships by scoring 272.18 points in the one meter dive in EMU’s previous meet versus the Miami University RedHawks, Oct. 28, Knapp also did so in the three meter via her 288.45 points in the event at Indiana State.

Eastern is back in the pool tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 4, in its second conference meet of the season, this time they face the Ball State University Cardinals. The first event will begin at 12 p.m.
The Eagles and Cardinals will meet in the pool for the 39th time Saturday. Eastern holds the all-time series edge against Ball State, producing a 23-14-1 record when facing the Cardinals. Additionally, Eastern Michigan has found consistent success in the series as of late as it has captured six consecutive wins over the MAC opponent, marking the longest winning streak in the series for either institution.
