Day 1 Highlights

Sans backstroke aces Danielle Hill and Shane Ryan, the latter of which won 50m back bronze tonight at SC Worlds, Marie Godden and David O’Loughlin topped the 50m back domestic podiums.

Godden stopped the clock at 27.68 to get the edge over Ards’ Grace Davison who settled for silver in 27.97. Jena Macdougald rounded out the podium in 28.00.

As for the men’s race, O’Loughlin punched a result of 24.89 as the sole sub-25-second swimmer. National Centre Ulster’s Charlie Cassidy snagged silver in 25.29 while Brandon Bliss of Swin Belfast got the bronze in 25.41.

Davison dove back in for the women’s 100m free where she nabbed gold by a large margin.

17-year-old Davison got to the wall in 53.56 with the next-closest swimmer represented by Danielle Farrell who touched in 55.24. Victoria Catterson also landed on the podium in 55.80 as the 3rd place finisher.

Calum Bain was the fastest men’s 100m freestyler, putting up a time of 48.36. That earned the victory over teammate Danny Morgan who logged 48.98 as the only other swimmer under the 49-second line. Larne’s Thomas Leggett rounded out the podium in 49.06.
