Future Cal Swimmer Annie Jia Wins 4 Titles At Middle Atlantic Senior Championships

Future college commits and some promising underclassmen put on a good show at the 2025 Middle Atlantic Senior Championships back in March.

The most notable standout among the soon-to-be college bound swimmers was Annie Jia of Upper Dublin Aquatic Club, a member of the class of 2025 who plans to swim in college for Cal.

Jia won four events, taking the 200 free (1:48.17), 100 back (53.61), 100 breast (personal best 1:01.69) and 100 butterfly (52.01).

Jia currently holds the third-fastest time this season in the 100 fly (50.65) among 18-year-old girls.

In the men’s competition, future Georgetown and class of 2025 swimmer Tre Cottrell of SJAC won two events, taking the 200 free (1:37.50) and 200 IM (1:49.06) in personal best times. He also was second in the 200 breast (2:00.76).

Team-wise, Upper Dublin Aquatic Club won the combined title, Germantown Academy Aquatic won the girls’ title while South Jersey Aquatic Club won the boys’ crown.

Other individual standouts were:

  • Tori Abruzzo of Plymouth Whitemarsh Aquatics, a class of 2025 who is headed to swim for South Carolina, won the 200 back (1:57.02), 200 fly (1:58.46) and 400 IM (4:17.42) in the girls’ event.
  • Shelby Hutchinson, 14-year-old for South Jersey Aquatic Cub, was second in the 100 back (53.77), 200 back (personal best 1:59.02) and the 100 fly (53.63). Among 14-year-old girls this season, she owns the 4th-fastest time in the 100 back, the fifth-fastest in the 100 fly and the 14th-fastest in the 200 back.
  • Karly Boles (class of 2025), a future SMU swimmer from Germantown Academy Aquatic, won the 1000 free (9:56.00) and was second in the 500 free (4:51.08) in the girls’ event.
  • Also in the girls’ event, Amelia Gipson of Germantown Academy Aquatic (class of 2027) won the 500 free (4:50.34) and was second in both the 200 fly (2:00.83) and 400 IM (personal best 4:19.68).
  • Matt Krause (class of 2025) of Emmaus Aquatic Club won the 100 back (48.11) and 100 fly (48.11) in identical personal best times, and also won the 200 back (1:45.16) in the boys’ competition.
  • Also in the boys’ competition, Notre Dame commit and SJAC swimmer Ryan Quinn (class 2026) swam personal best times to finish second in the 100 back (48.97) and 200 IM (1:50.29). He was also second in the 100 fly (48.16).
